Saying hello as well
« on: January 23, 2010, 04:10:45 am »
Hello everyone,

I have been transitioning from a crap diet to  cooked paleo and now moving into a raw paleo diet.  Things I have noticed over the last few weeks my cravings for sugar are almost non existent except last night when I was looking at those peanut butter oreos (as my friend poetically pointed out they were eye f'ing me) amazingly still there was no urge to devour them.  My cravings for other crap food is almost gone too and my appreciation for meat and fresh fruits and vegetables taste and flavor has been remarkable.  My moods have greatly stabilized as well (my favorite part of eating this way).  I just had my 2nd meal of raw meat some beef and I enjoyed it very much.  I found a source for local beef (grass feed and some grain) and  poultry and bought one of their products that is sold as food for pets it is beef trim, liver kidneys, tongue etc and the stickers says not for humans.  Is this passing from my mouth to my cat's or safe for me (still going through parasite and fear of eating raw meats stage)?  Thank you for the informative helpful posts and info for newbies has made this process much easier.

Welcome, glad you're having success and comfort with paleo/raw paleo

I asked 2 different US vendors of grass-fed meat about why pet food meat was different from human grade meat and one said it was "scraps that could have been on the floor" and the other said it was "what was lying around," which I took to mean that it may have been unrefrigerated for awhile, or in an uncovered tub... in other words, meat that wouldn't pass inspection standards due to the handling of it.

Perhaps others have more enlightening information on the subject. I don't eat pet food meat, but my dog does (and likes it very much!)

Not that long a couple of weeks (maybe a little early for my amount of over enthusiasm but I definitely feel what I described).  What did it solve ? You mean besides what I stated above? I went on it because I began to have real trouble digesting food after a long period of over eating and eating of unhealthy foods and my stomach problems were continuing to get worse. I also food a fluttering sensation that would happen around my gallbladder/liver area which has since gone away.  I am going to pass on the pet food stuff (it says sept 21 on it anyway) and may be able to get fresh organs next week.

Hello!

I look forward to hearing your experience with added organs!... does this mean you are going for the human grade? :)

My dog gets a ground organ/meat mix from a local farm.  It smells really good to me, and I've been planning to try it.. one of these days :P

Thanks for your welcomes and helpful responses.  Amazingly enough I live in Connecticut where you can buy meat directly from farms from a company who delivers them too you (placed a large order and even got some goat organs) the stuff is frozen but I may be able to get some fresh stuff from a good farm really close by.  I was lucky enough to stop by a co-op in Massachusetts that had fresh beef suet.  I ate some and having a larger amount of animal fats have really been helpful then just eating some lean meat and a little fat.  Look forward to reading more in this forum.
