Clams make my nails stronger and healthier
« on: July 26, 2011, 03:45:14 am »
I have noticed that eating clams, particularly the smaller varieties, helps my fingernails and toenails to be stronger and look much healthier. I don't know why, but it definitely works.

can you tell us more about how long it took you to notice the improvement? I'm interested! Thanks!

One reason may be that oysters are very high in calcium and zinc both of which are necessary for nail health. If you get white dots on your nails it means that you are zinc deficient btw.

Actually, it's not oysters, which is what I find strange.  ONLY clams will work.

It happens almost immediately, within just a few hours.  It lasts for several weeks, too.

GS--I wish I had some before pictures of my toenail.  I broke the nail off when I was 15, over 20 years ago, and it still looked very unhealthy until just a few weeks ago.  I ate 5 dozen small clams in one day, and it's been looking much better ever since.

I don't eat clams, but since I started the primal diet my fingernails and hair are definitely stronger. I know because I grow the nails a bit long to play guitar.
Cheers

cherimoya_kid, if you make a claim like that then you need brilliant anecdotal/observational evidence to back it up, not just "I noticed". To me your claim is completely meaningless at this point. I say this also to people on veg-type diets, there is not the slightest bit of credibility in noticing these types of things. They could be happening for any reason, they could be complete placebo. The only thing like that I can say with any faith is that taking magnesium/calcium supplements and flossing greatly helps my teeth.
