Any Suggestions on Eating Healthy at Fastfood Restaurants?
« on: December 21, 2011, 09:54:31 am »
Can anyone suggest any healthy food at Buffalo Wild Wings, Just Salad, or UFood Grill? I prefer to have something that's high in protein but low in carbs  :)

If you're eating salad, eat spinach and dark green lettuce. I think celery usually comes with the wings, too, so you can eat that.

Thanks for your suggestion, cherimoya_kid.  Built a meal at JustSalad using nutritionix calculator at http://www.nutritionix.com/subway/nutrition-calculator

Here's my bowl:

Celery
Baby Spinach
Buffalo Chicken
Tortilla Strips

Protein: 33.4 g
Carbs: 20 g

Guess, I still need to find a way to minimize the carbs.

Fast-food-related topics  should only appear in the hot topics forum Moved there now.

There are now grassfed meat burger bars here and there. They are hardly ideal, since their burgers are cooked, but their burgers are "less worse" than the cooked, grainfed burgers elsewhere.

Those carbs are mainly from the tortilla strips.  Those are not particularly good for you, so I'd avoid those.

I'd also avoid that chicken.  Those are very sick animals, raised on a terrible-quality diet.

Where did you encounter such a burger bar?

There are 2 in London I know of, one in West Hampstead and one in the O2  shopping centre in Finchley Road. I'm sure there are many others as the latter was part of a chain.

Really?

You're good at this Cherimoya_kid. Thanks!

How about this salad:

Olive Oil Blend
Cucumbers
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Onions
Avocado
Roast Beef
Swiss Cheese

Cals: 256.5
Carbs: 7 g
Protein: 22 g

Reference: Subway Menu at http: http://www.nutritionix.com/subway/nutrition-calculator

Can't think of anything with higher protein..but at least I got the carbs right and the calorie count isn't bad

I'd go easy on the questionable olive oil, and also the questionable swiss cheese.  The beef is probably grain-fed, so I'd go light on that as well.

Oh! Ok

Now I can't have chicken, roast beef, tortilla, Swiss cheese, and what else?

That is painful  -\

Jared, are you thinking about eating fast-food every day? once a week? once in a blue moon?

If I assume that you are thinking about a f-f meal every day, and I knew that you wanted to eat a RPD for some long-term health benefit, I'd say, "Make another arrangement and figure out how to bring your own meal with you."

Once a week f-f might bring you to a compromise decision depending on the social circumstances. For example, my co-workers eat out together about once a week, with two of us eating our own food because we want our own "better" food. Some of the others eat the restaurant food and constantly comment on how "bad" they are being on their diets.

If it's once in a blue moon, either take a planned "cheat" (as one of our members call it) or not. Just don't pout about it. We grown-ups get to make up our own minds about what we eat!

It's not a question of "can't have", unless you're sick/dying.  It's more an issue of how often, and how much. It's smart to make your cheats purely for social reasons, and only in amounts sufficient to satisfy the social situation, no more.

Have you tried raw meat yet or grass fed?
