Raw Vegan
« on: December 24, 2011, 11:24:12 am »
Hi all,

I am a raw vegan and have been vegetarian or vegan for the past 12 years. Any idea of how I could reincorporate meat? I'm an evidenced based person and the evidence is pointing to me thriving better on a diet high in protein and low in carbs. I'm also craving liver of all things, which leads me to believe I have a vitamin deficiency. Any ideas of how to reintroduce meat? The idea kind of disgusts me, but my search for optimum health is more important to me than taste (I personally found steak disgusting as a child when I still ate it. And yes I had well prepared steak; my grandfather was a butcher). If anyone has any experience with this I would greatly appreciate your advice.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I have heard from a few vegetarian friends that they believe that switching to meat would severely poison them. I experienced no such effect. I felt a nutritional need for animal protein, and I ate some chicken. I overcame the spiritual and mental objections in my own way. I get good grass-fed liver, slice it into bite-size pieces, and chew it. I like it.

Sometimes eating raw fish can be more appetizing than raw meat, especially raw shellfish like scallops or clams. Raw tuna is very tasty to most people.  I also enjoy escolar (Hawaiian butterfish) and red snapper.

another suggestion would be to eat meat or animal products alone, so not to dilute what acids you still have in your stomach, and eat only when truly hungry, and eat small amounts at first, gradually building up the amounts.  Also seek out what tastes good to you.
