Eating Protein Without Fat
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:55:27 am »
Some claim that you must eat fat with protein to fully absorb the protein, is there any empirical evidence to back this claim?

Athletes and bodybuilders appear to utilize protein without mixing it with fat. Although fats are necessary for hormonal production and absorbing fat soluble nutrients, does protein need to be eaten with fat to be digested and absorbed?

When I personally eat just lean protein my body is never calm.. I need some fat or carb with it. I prefer fat.

No, carbs + protein is also working, as long as the amount of protein is not extremely high.

I actually do pretty well just eating some lean meat, but I agree that fat is very important.

It's not just that fat is very important it's that we can't get all our caloric requirements with only lean cuts of meats. I can go with lean meats only for so long until my body craves high calorie feed.  When it gets to that point I can eat 5k calories worth meat and fat and after that I eat hellottt of wallnuts and a pound of honey.. Lean cuts only are also associated with "rabbit starvation?.  Not eating enough calories to sustain thyroid function is too very bad.

Thanks for your response.

Fast absorbed protein is useful for post workout meals. So eating lean meat during that time should be digested rather quick.

Eating carbohydrates and protein are important for intense exercise. It is good to know that protein utilization will still be fine.

During regular meals more fat can be added for its indirect benefits.
