Hey guys,

slowly in transition to rare/raw animal foods.  Luckily i have a very nice family farm organization in my area that sells a lot of specialty products.  I am new with all this and picked up some bone marrow for the first time the other day.  My stomach is healing from years of alcohol/gluten/pasteurized dairy, medical drugs, etc.  I can't stomach most raw vegetables very well but i do eat them cooked and they go fine.  Anyways tonight i sauteed a little brocolli and carrots in the marrow and it was delicious.  I just didn't know the rules as far as freezing/eating raw.  I get the marrow frozen and it thaws in the fridge or on the counter.  I find that my body is liking a gradual transition as I have never been  eating raw meat for 25 years up until recently.  I am used to raw eggs, kefir, rare salmon and beef, etc.  I get a bad reaction when I try to eat raw liver, raw beef, steak, etc.  Just can't stomach it yet.  Anyways, i was wondering for those that eat cooked vegetables, would it be practical to steam some veggies and then add some raw marrow as a sauce?  This would warm it a little without cooking it.  Also, are there any rules on waiting two weeks in the freezer before eating?  I just want to make sure i avoid any bug issues.

I would never cook marrow.  It is meant to be eaten raw. I'd suggest that you don't heat it much higher than body temperature.

The 2-week delay nonsense is advocated by Sally Fallon of the WAPF so as to kill off any parasites. It doesn't kill off bacteria, though. In the RVAF diet community, this advice is generally ignored as it is ridiculous to wait that long, and the dangers are negligible.

As far as I know you should be okay adding a fat like this to every meal if you like. Fat-soluable nutrients will be more available for absorption and I think fat can help digestion in physical ways as well. It certainly feels good to add fat to any meal  ;D

If you're sure your marrow is from a good source you can warm it up a little in the oven (think of an animal after an hour long chase) to improve palatability.

Hey, Joe, I've been eating fresh marrow for right around a month now with no ill effects whatsoever. I wouldn't worry too much about having to keep it frozen or anything. I'm not sure how warm you need to get it for it to be like a sauce, but I think eating it on your veggies or with them wouldn't be all that different from using butter. If it makes it easier for you, go for it.
