spring water to drink?
« Reply #26 on: May 07, 2009, 01:03:48 am »

not more than 1 gal/4 liter per day

the quotes which follow are taken from:
http://www.freshpure.com/faqs.html

"There is much controversy about minerals in our drinking water. As a species, humans evolved consuming surface water found in streams, rivers and lakes. Surface water is naturally low in minerals. When humans began to dig deep wells, they tapped into groundwater with a much higher mineral content. These minerals exist in a form and quantity that the body cannot easily absorb. Consequently, they tend to build up in the organs and tissues, instead of being utilized by the body. FreshPure™ RO Water contains only trace levels of minerals (typically 5-20 ppm), similar to the low levels found in fresh surface water.
"Optimally, the minerals needed by the body are obtained from either a diet rich in whole foods, or through food-based supplements."

"TDS, or Total Dissolved Solids, is the total quantity of dissolved chemical solids (usually mineral salts) in water, measured in ppm (parts per million).  Municipal water supplies typically contain up to 800 or 1000 ppm. .... The lower the TDS, the more pure the water. FreshPure™ Waters RO Water contains only trace levels of minerals (typically 5-20 ppm). FreshPure Waters™ DI Water has virtually no TDS at all."

in europe, all waters that come not from water surfaces (rivers, lakes) but from underground (spring, artesian) are called "mineral waters" -- whereas in other countries or areas of the planet, however, only waters high in tds, hard waters, too overloaded w/ inorganic minerals to be healthy are labeled "mineral water"

so: take your pick, the choice is yours -- every1 = an individual

"The pH of FreshPure™ varies with the chemistry of the incoming municipal water supply. Generally, reverse osmosis filtration tends to lower the pH of water. This pH becomes naturally balanced once the water contacts your intestinal system."

personally, i drink deionized tap water: it does not smell or taste like tap water at all, it's like rain water in fact
most of it, though, i don't drink as is but structure w/ hawaiian sea salt in 2 versions as follows:

(a) black hawaii sea salt w/ added volcanic material to drink away from food (raw meat = food for me) since its alkaline ph (8.6) could lower the stomach acidity thus getting in the way of digestion

(b) red hawaii sea salt w/ added clay to drink right before, during, or after food (ph = 6.6)

every1 = an individual > some1's food = some1 else's poison

I drink nothing but Perrier. I can't go near our tapwater now that I'm drinking this, even though we have a filter. It tastes awful. I suppose it might be the fluoride. I'd like to move on to better mineral water, but we can get this in bulk at Costco, so it'll do for now. Way better than the filtered tap. Yuck.

Anyway, I noticed, I drink a LOT of water. Between 2 and 3 .5 liter bottles a day, so about 1 to 1.5 liters. Is that "normal", especially for someone small? (I'm about 85lbs).

Granted, I'm not on raw yet and struggle to eat paleo 100%, so that probably increases my water intake, but it still seems like a lot. I'd prefer to drink less for monetary reasons (hah...), as this is pretty expensive and therefore detracts from buying better quality food (still living with my parents).

Just curious how much others drink.

Well, I think I only drink 8 glasses a day. People will oblige to drink because water is our life.  And we should drink clean and pure water.

I'm in GA right now where the humidity is like 90%.  I drank 8 ounces yesterday and even less today.   2 weeks ago I was in Las Vegas drinking at least 1 liter sometimes 2 every day.  I dont like drinking that much water, but I gotta.  Adding a little salt helps quench thirst a little better for me.

Very nice discussion. I have learned a lot. Before, I just drink less than 3 glasses a day after I eat..But as I read many articles, I love to drink plenty of water..
Thanks for the nice information...

My water intake depends on the day. One day I can drink as much as 3 litres and the other as little as 0,5 litre
When the weather is hotter and more humid then, of cource, I drink more.
I practically always add a little bit of Himalayan salt, which is one of the best salts on the Earth. Adding sth to water makes it better to absorb.

I drink a ton after I eat, and as thirst dictates.

You may want to drink more before  you eat.  It weakens digestion to drink after meals.

If candida is not an issue, I agree that fresh coconut water is a wonderful means for hydration.  Congratulations on giving your son this for 2yrs!  I wish I could afford to do the same for my son when he progresses onto foods/drinks other than breast milk.  I would consider Dr Martins green coconut water but it's too expensive to rely on alone.  This is supposedly raw.  Does anyone else drink this commercially available green coconut water?

Watermelon?  From what I understand this is too high in fructose and not a healthy food!  Of course, gs may be more adapted to such foods being from the region in which they grow - as long as they're indigenous and not genetically manipulated like most modern fruits.

Oh really, I'm not surprised. She seems to enter and leave forums, one after the other, after only a few months each time. I think it's partly because she's a "lost soul", constantly searching for the "Truth". Why did she leave zerocarbage.com? Did she annoy Charles by going against the rigid dogma there?

Yes, ordinarily I wouldn't consider touching anything in 'packaging' but I had being in contact with Dr Martin about their product and he assured me that it received no heat.  I still don't drink it myself due to candida but my partner does occasionally (not that she's raw!).  I was wondering about giving it to my 6 month old son.

I've noticed a few comments from Satya on the PaNu blog.  I admire her for dedicated efforts for finding the diet that's right for her and, by accounts of her physical prowess, she certainly seems to be doing something right.  I did notice a decline in her benevolence towards the end of her time on here and I'm not sure if it was due to issues with some of the members of this forum or a more general tendency towards growing intolerance and anger.  It's a shame as I thought the forum was a better place with her a part of it.

I got the following from the detoxyourworld website describing Dr Martins coconut water.  I wonder if they think coconuts remove bacteria or if it is that they think that man can remove bacteria without pasteurising.  If it were raw, they propose it's still raw after mailing it around the country?  When I chopped open coconuts I drank it immediately.  I did for a few weeks buy it in gallon containers, but I was then too where they grow and the people at the tiny store where I bought it gathered and opened them themselves and I drank it all within a couple hours.

Quote
100% raw organic coconut water, 500ml.

Price: £2.99
Code: F0097

We've found it virtually impossible to get organic young (jelly) coconuts in the UK, so we were so happy when we discovered this product. It tastes almost identical to fresh green coconut water. It's naturally preserved because the bacteria are removed.

coconut water ferments very quickly.  In India they make an alchoholic drink out of it within days.   It will even tend to go off in the intestines if digestion or food combining is poor.  I really doubt that it hasn't been heated.

I always drank it on an empty stomach.  It's all I had till I served dinner.  I didn't eat dessert either nor midnight snacks.  It was all I drank, so I really did need the approximate five and a quarter quarts I drank a day.  The weather was very hot.

As RawZi mentioned in her quote, they claim that it doesn't ferment as their 'special' filtering process removes the bacteria responsible for it.  I don't see why that would be so difficult or require heat.  I have a water filter flask that I take on hiking/camping trips.  It's carbon filter filters down to 15 nanometres and, therefore, physically does not allow to pass ANY bacteria (with the smallest bacteria being 200 nanometres) or ANY viruses (the smallest virus being 25 nanometres).  The technology has been available for this for some time now.

If it were raw, they propose it's still raw after mailing it around the country?

Shipping it around the country isn't ideal, of course, but many of us could say that about a large proportion of the raw foods we consume.  Certainly, I have all of my grass-fed meat products delivered by courier.

From my experience, plant products, especially liquid, are not as stable as animal products.  I have bought raw organic coconut water ijn the mail several times.  One of the times it made someone very sick who drank it.  No doctor was involved, and they did recover fully from the coconut water reaction, but I would be careful of using shipped raw coconut water for a person who is weak to begin with.  Maybe for us it would be fine.  We eat RAF.  We are stronger.

Sorry to hear of your friend's bad reaction to it RawZi.  Could that incident be unquestionably due to the coconut water or is there the possibility that something else may also have been involved?  Was it the Martin's brand with the bacteria removed?  I could understand that - if not stored under the correct conditions during transit - the lack of 'good' bacteria as well as 'bad' may predispose the water to potential contamination.

Thank you.  There was something wrong with the coconut water when it arrived.  It was not Martin's.  It was packed well, made in small batches, shipped overnight, shipped out just after being made etc etc.  I believe there was pathogenic contamination and their body couldn't handle foreign microorganisms well.
