WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO DINE WITH?
« on: June 17, 2015, 05:37:38 am »
Assuming you could easily journey to join any other Member of our group, whose current diet most appeals to you?

After a bit of thought:
I like Tyler's choice of Raw Oysters and enjoy these myself.   Might like to try one of the Raw Hares he is so enthusiastic about?
I envy Good Samaritans choice and variety of Raw Fish, and most of the other diet appeals?
The tremendous range of Rawzi favorites would leave me speechless and well filled with goodies of all kinds (gastronomic exploration)?
Would love to share some of Sabertooth's Maggot Meat and show him some of my Maggot Fish?
Both Eveheart and Jessica could help me to enjoy more varieties of Fermented Meat and Fish and smoothies?
Techydude has endless suggestions, which may not appeal to everyone, but certainly appeal to me?

I feel it is possible to learn something new, and well worth trying, from most, if not all, members of our adventurous select band.
No-one has been intentionally left out, so hope to add to my list from time to time!

If this were solely a question of whose diet I would like to emulate it would be GS and Inger. GS has access to a wide variety of fruits, such as bananas etc. Here in Europe, there seems to be just one variety, whereas in the Phillipines, there are pink etc. etc. bananas. Inger has access to raw seafood which I do not any more.

When I was in London, I did indeed have access to extremely large(and, astonishingly, very cheap) double-oysters  and raw wild hare carcasses and would drink pints of raw blood from such carcasses. However, these days, I live in Austria. Austria, unfortunately,  is a landlocked country so that all seafood is imported from a thousand miles away or more, and is prefrozen etc., and hideously expensive - I generally only eat raw wildcaught seafood when I am abroad on holiday. Raw wild game in Austria  is much more easily available than in the UK and in much greater variety, but, sadly as a result, they, unlike the British, are fully aware of the superior quality of wild game, so they charge  more for it than in the UK farmers' markets. Raw organ-meats from wild game are more difficult to get hold of, with raw wild marrow being virtually unavailable.

One positive thing is that most standard domesticated meat comes from small-time Austrian peasants. This means that industrialised intensive-farming practices are virtually nil, although grainfeeding is likely practised more than it should be. At any rate, the taste of standard supermarket meats in Austria is better than what is found in the UK.

I am able to get hold of raw honeycomb of the finest quality, sourced from within ancient woodland.I am considering buying a whole deer or wild boar carcass from local hunters but have no idea if I can store such in my fridge and freezer unless the hunter is willing to cut up the meat beforehand into smaller chunks.

Tapwater in Vienna is wonderful. Unlike London tapwater which made me feel ill, and which has gone through an average of 8 human bladders before reaching you, Viennese tapwater comes from Alpine streams and tastes great. So I do not need to buy 5 liter alkaline mineral water bottles like I used to have to in the UK.

I'd head back east to sit at the feet of my mentor-butcher, sabertooth, then pay my respects to cherimoya kid (same neck of the woods).

I dont think there is a person here I wouldn't want to dine with.  Perhaps a better question is who would have me  :P

Definitely would want to visit Inger and try out her seafood and wild greens diet and appreciate her low emf/quiet, dark, cold (sounds romatic enough) lifestyle.

Also Aura, who was last heard from naked out in the jungle somewhere.  I'd do that.

And of course GS, just to experience a totally different culture and the beautiful natural surroundings and abundance of exotic foods.

Also sabertooth because he has a lot going on that is pretty similar to what i would be able to do if i ever actually got my shit together, which is have a small amount of animals of my own and on my own property(i am always raising other peoples animals...) and also i think he speak pretty eloquenty from much in the same places i find myself rooted spiritually/politically/whatever you want to call that in this day and age........

Also Rogue Farmer, because.......sorry i had to say it :(

In truth i would want to visit everyone because I think you are all extremely interesting, dynamic, diverse.  I have learned a great deal from each person on the forum.

Dine with everyone of course.

I do find Inger's winter habits exotic (swimming naked in an ice cold lake), not using heating for winter, and her charming voice on youtube... might sound better in person. :)
(winter and scandinavia is exotic to me)

FYI Aura has moved to the Philippines, she is currently in Samal Island just a ferry ride from Davao City.

GS, of course. It's not even close. It would be like my times in Costa Rica, but even better, because of the greater variety of raw seafoods. Inger would be second...fish head smoothies would be interesting to try.

We need some Japanese members. That is Heaven for raw seafood/meat eaters. LOL

Japanese and Korean people probably have little need for a raw paleontologists website. Actually the best part about dining with vs is gets down with the whole no water thing which  I am personally all about.

Just putting it out there, that I have converted my back yard into a garden cottage resort, and have been renting out a basement apartment, our detached art studio and an upstairs room on Airb&B for the last year. https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/8556391

During that time My girlfriend and I have met with dozens of travelers from all walks of life, and I have been able to minister to many of them about the merits of a raw paleo diet.

I would be happy to let a few of my fellow raw dieter drop by for a visit if the opportunity presents itself.

I have been considering doing a Raw Paleo workshop where if enough people would sign up and agree to split the cost of a whole animal, I would lead the group on a tour where we would go to the farm and pick out an animal, then I could do a butchering demonstration, and teach about the best methods for harvesting and preservation. Afterward we could all feast and share the leftovers.

We are in the process of building an addition to our garden cottage, but once that is done in early August, if anyone wishes to sign up please let me Know.

RogueFarmer and I dined on raw pastured pork chops while driving through the redwoods on our way back from watching a full moon/lunar eclipse in the grassy dunes of the pacific coast shoreline.  we collected a wild turkey, a fresh caught salmon and some seaweed along the way, all gifted from nature.

So,  what was the lunar eclipse/super-blood moon like?  I foolishly tried to see it from a wide-open park in central Vienna at 4am, last night. Given the vast number of lights in the city, this was not the best idea. I was told that most genuine eclipse-watchers in Vienna would go to a local observatory on a hill-top outside Vienna to look at it properly through a telescope. I saw only a vague smudge of faint reddish-brown in the black and nothing else.

One of my most favourite experiences in life was to visit Cornwall in August 1999 to view the full solar eclipse there. It was amazing, a truly religious experience- the sky was, sadly, fully overcast at the time, but there was an eerie, deathly silence among the wildlife as the sky became night, and the air became freezing like it was winter, not August in daytime.

Up at 2 am, I saw the eclipse start and photographed it every 5 minutes till 3.20 am when I returned to bed.   Putting all 13 photographs together, and running a slide show on the computer, you can see the Earth shadow step across the Moon face from top left 'corner' to bottom right.   Sadly my little Olympus SP350 camera, without accessories, could not fully resolve the color shift, but it does show a pink/orange tint towards the end.   You really need specialist equipment for this exercise, but I was pleased with my feeble attempts which may even be used in our Church Concert, 'Stars in the Universe' on 17-18 October 2015, when I have to join the singing chorus (tut tut).

Tyler, we were both nonplussed by the faint "red smudge" in the sky and honestly didnt even recognize it totally until it was a many degrees above the horizon.  It rose during full eclipse and was much more visually interesting to watch as it came out of the dark, at times it was white, red and a grey/black.  The waves were extremely big due to the moon.  This was near an river that flows out to sea, where salmon spawn.  Sea lions were in number fishing and enjoying the waves.   I even came across a sea lion washed ashore, it seemed to have had a chunk taken out of it by a shark?? unfortunately it was pretty foul smelling and the best i cold do was pull a few ribs out of it as souveniers.  I was so hoping to be able to salvage a few sea lion stakes and some blubber.  I am much more motivated to be near the sea now that I have a bit better idea of its abundance.

Jessica, I'm pretty sure that unfortunate critter was a seal, I think the sea lions who appeared to be checking us out were two or three or so times the size of the carcass we were examining. I wanted to be diving myself for whatever the lions were diving for but you know they are more than twice the size of actual lions and are a favorite prey species of great whites and orca so spending much time in the water didn't seem like the best idea, especially after I bled my toe pretty good lol.

I mean it was fine I never limped but its generally considered bad to swim in the ocean with an open wound. Actually I did jump in for a couple minutes in a little rocky cove, the water wasn't too cold yet either.
