Animal cruelty at UK abattoirs

This isn't actually UK farming's fault as it was the UK government and the EU went into paranoid hysterics  after the BSE crisis(which only affected intensively-farmed grainfed cattle). The 2 forced  2(!)  different vets from the EU and the UK< respecitvely,  to check each animal after slaughter, asa  result, and they forced the closure of most of the abattoirs in the country.  No wonder, animals in the UK now, mostly, have to be driven for 100s of miles to the nearest abattoir in such shocking conditions. Time was when farmers were allowed to slaughter their own animals either on their farm or in the nearest town or village.
