Anyway, I was right, the dates claimed for all sorts of events in palaeolithic times have been either too early or too late by 100s of thousands of years. What will be interesting is to see whether those first settlers of the Americas were modern humans or not. If the former, then the Out of Africa theory is dealt a near-mortal blow.

Its feasible that a Neanderthal offshoot could have made it to the Americas much earlier than modern humans. If their numbers were small enough and they ended up dying out long ago there wouldn't be much evidence left.

Out of Africa theory is becoming full of more and more holes. This is all speculation, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think it should now be called in and out of Africa, because it appears humans to have came out in waves, where our most distant ancestors left long before the emergence of modern humans. These ancestor offshoots evolved in the middle east and more northern lands, some went even further, perhaps over the land bridge to the Americas, never to return, while others stayed closer to the African land routes and interbred with late comers. Perhaps some of these early waves of hybrids even migrated back to the African boarder regions and interbred with an emerging race of more modern humans, before they eventually left Africa for good, and re-interbred with with  their distant relations who had been evolving out of Africa for a few hundred thousand of years.

In the new theory there is still the assumption that we originally evolved from the African Great Apes, though there is no direct out of Africa linage, because many of our hybrid ancestors had evolved outside of Africa for hundreds of thousands of years. Early waves of evolving hominids bred with the later waves, in a none linear pattern, with migrations going back and forth, to and from Africa, which eventually lead to the emergence of what we know of as modern humans.

A man who makes a beast of himself, forgets the pain of being a man.

Exactly, though, as with the Neanderthals, I suspect that the older hominids intermixed with the other newcomers when they came along a 100,000+ years later.

I'm not surprised by this. A lot of Native American tribes had stories about tall red-headed people who they say were here before them. Most of the stories said the red-headed people were really aggressive and would constantly wage war on them.

Also stories of giants.
And in South America there are people who really had elongated heads (found evidence of this prior to birth) and others who had their heads bound to look like this.

The reality is nothing like the "science" linear development, you've got "people" traveling all over the world for hundreds of thousands of years with periodic calamities and cosmic ray inundation so ours going to be really complex and interesting, from hobbits to giants and lots in between.

And the sea level going up and down over one hundred meters would inundate and expose and huge areas of land

I'm part Choctaw so I'm somewhat familiar with the stories of the Nahullo, a race of white cannibals who were supposedly 10 feet tall and were the mound builders. The stories say the Nahullo were already around when the Choctaw started to move into the southern US and they hated each other and would kill each other on sight until the Nahullo were wiped out. When the Spanish and French explorers came the Choctaw told them about the Nahullo and they thought it was primitive superstition.
