I think that they are allowed to eat some meat, but in general they eat much more tofu and fake meat made of soy. Tofu/soy is definitely going to trigger some oestrogens and make they more overweight.
Because they have their last meal around mid-day, and are not allowed to eat after that, so they drink a lot sugary drinks and sometimes energy drinks. The food offered for free in the mornings is sometimes also packaged junk food...

Tibetan monks do eat meat. However, they get round the restrictions against killing animals by buying their meat from Muslims.
