You can watch TV via internet, so it doesn't matter.
The much better question is how many hours of computer do you or your kids use per day.

Yes I agree. I don't watch TV at all but computer use, heavily reading (or writing) all the scam and non-sense posts, blogs or sites that unfortunately more and more pervade the net may also be a ridiculous and dangerous addiction.

I used to watch a lot of TV but found that I started watching TV programmes even if they bored me to tears(we had only  4 TV channels in the UK at the time). Once I stopped watching TV, I found my life improved considerably. I still have a DVD rental servive so watch c.6 DVDs a week, mostly comprising of episodes from TV shows, but it's highly selective and I don't watch rubbish. I also buy DVDs from really impressive TV series as well.

i have 1100 channels and watch about 4 of them, 2 being 24 hour news stations. TV is only on when I get home from work to settle down. I work in a very high stress environment and TV lets me turn my brain off, but I have to say that I can't stand most of the programing on and if it wasn't for my husband I wouldn't pay for cable.

My eldest brother once worked some shifts ,pre-University ,doing very heavy labour, and he said he could understand why such people would go home and automatically watch dud shows on TV, with a beer in their hand. They'd be so exhausted that they could do nothing else, really.

I probably watch an hour or two of TV a day. I catch about a half hour of news in the morning before leaving for work and we vegetate in front of the TV after work most nights. There are only two shows on TV which we go out of our way to watch (Ghost Hunters and The Big Bang Theory) so it's easy to not much of anything if we're so inclined.
I do spend at least 9 hours on a computer a day (8 minimum for work plus whatever personal time).
I also play console games occasionally and we'll watch DVDs.
I do have to admit the month after we moved where we had no cable and thus watched little to no TV or movies was glorious. I may find myself moving further and further that way as I get older. :)

I don't have cable right now and don't have a receiver for broadcast, so at home my TV is used for watching dvd's. I watch mostly tv shows and sometimes movies when I'm eating dinner. Right now in my PS2 is "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Very funny show. TV is considered mindless, but I think that these days there are some very good shows. "Curb Your Enthusiasm" comes to mind. I don't watch new shows when they come out for the obvious reason of not having cable, but my friends turn me onto the shows and I rent them via Netflix when they come out on dvd. I hear "The Wire" was very good. There's probably dozens of good shows out there, good meaning quality writing and acting, like in a "good" movie.

I watch maybe 10-20 minutes of TV a week.  I do occasionally buy DVDs of shows I've liked.
