Tabs on the bottom of pages
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:27:51 pm »
The Craig,

Is there anyway you can reproduce the main navigation tab on the bottom of each page?  It is annoying to have to scroll up to go "Home" and such.  Thanks for your unswerving benevolence, your Craigship.

Your wish has been granted, Dearest Satya.

I didn't reproduce the tab but there is now a "go up" link at the bottom left that will take you straight to the top of the page and a "go down" for the opposite action.

Um, one other thing, Shaman du jour.  Why do the emoticons some times show up as graphics and other times as text for me (anyone else?)?

I haven't noticed that with the emoticons but I have noticed that the "new" when viewing  "show unread posts since last visit" used to be in text on my Mac but is now a graphic.

Craig,

Will you please place the "go down" and "go up" links on the search results pages?

Craig,

Will you please place the "go down" and "go up" links on the search results pages?

Satya,

Sorry I can't grant your request at this time but I have a couple of alternatives that might help.

It might be as simple as copying code from the php file that currently contains it to another for the search page but I cannot figure out how to do that. It could also be as simple as altering the current file to include those options on the search page but as for now, I cannot figure out how to do this either.

The search results are set for 30 per page. I'll reduce that to 10 results per page eliminating 2/3 of the scrolling to the top.

This has never been a problem for me because I click on the scroll bar and move it to the top or bottom of the page. Using the scroll wheel does take some time for long pages. Those "go up/down" links are faster and more convenient though. I'll keep this in mind in the future and try to figure out how to get them there without wreaking havoc on the rest of the forum.

Thanks for looking into this, Craig.  I drag the scrollbar when it's a long page.  Thank you for limiting search returns to 10 per page.  I am sure that will be good enough.

And to put my money where my mouth is, I have fixed the banner and navbar on rawpaleo.com to the screen, as that is the easiest solution to allow for an escape from a page without ANY scrolling.  It uses up more real estate, but with some of the pages getting lengthy, I thought it the quickest and easiest solution.

If you see problems in various browsers, please advise.  The only one I fear is the dreaded IE6, which DH can test at work.  I guess this forum is fine for posting issues, as its descpription includes problems with both sites.  It should be fine, but if you see weird things, lemme know.

The fixed banner is marvelous, Satya!
