Who's into fishing?
« on: March 01, 2010, 06:24:05 am »
I've always had a thing for fishing.
I've tried peaceful lake fishing.
Yesterday I tried ocean fishing:

I'm a fishing "virgin".  I don't have my own equipment.  I just enjoy what the fisherman has to rent out.

I may think of getting my own gear and getting involved in local fishing forums.

Next time I will go with the real fishermen who cast nets just for the experience.

I have fished a handful of times but have enjoyed it quite a bit each time.
I think it's another thing my wife and I need to add to the "To Do" list for this year. She grew up fishing all the time with her Uncle and has many great memories doing so. I'd like to keep making those memories with  her now. :)

Good samaritan, I am jealous.  Let me know next time you go out fishing, I love to fish!  I use to go out often when I lived in the Caribbean and some in Latin America but I have not had the chance to go out in the Philippines except for lapu-lapu (grouper).  I also tired eating dorado raw but did not like the taste at all.  I agree that it tastes much better lightly grilled or in soup.  Do you have the contacts for the fisherman you went out with?  When do you plan to go again?  The best fishing is for large yellow fin tuna or marlin.  You need to try that some time for some real fighting fish, especially when they can weigh 50 kilos or more!

I spearfish or just use a knife. I don't use tanks (freedive). I also dive for shell fish.

Stabbed a tasty octupus last weekend ate it only hours later. It is serious fun.
