Suet Micronutrients
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:18:40 am »
What's the micronutrient content like in kidney fat, or other suet? I was just wondering, because some suet just tastes so bland I didn't know if I'd be diluting myself somehow by eating lots of it. I don't know, I'm not really that concerned but I just thought I'd post about it up here since I'm basically waiting to go to sleep. Bleh.

Eat bone marrow, I think it's superior than suet.I will never eat suet as well as back fat unless the fat is yellow as goodsamaratins beef is.

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/beef-products/3478/2

it is mostly fat 94%, water 4%, and everything else 2%

to really know if you are eating too much fat you'd have to take your stool to the lab so they can tell how much fat you are not absorbing.
the less exact way is to inspect your stool visually for any signs of undigested fat.

just eat it and be happy, no need to bother your head with such questions.  remember, the dumbest person is usually the healthiest.

color of fat does not mean anything.
all grass-fed lamb from Slankers has very white fat.  Slankers beef also has white fat.  beef Suet has more yellow tint to it.
so either slankers meat is not grass-fed or fat color is really meaningless.

my hint is very yellow fat comes form older animals when they loose ability to convert beta-carotine into vit A.

I don't think that food labs have done break downs on things like suet much. I had trouble finding the caloric content of it once, and that's the easiest thing to find out. Also I'm willing to be any nutrient break down would not be on premium grass fed suet.

Miles if your eating a variety of organ meats than I really wouldn't worry about micronutrients.

As the source of energy eggs yolks are not so good. Suet is much better - it gives me long-lasting energy.

Here's the only kind of suet I found on nutritiondata - http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/beef-products/3478/2
As you can see the miconutrient content is very low, but IMO it's not important.
I eat a suet as a source of the best energy - lots of long-chain triglicerides.

Thanks for the advice Mr. Vegan.

As the source of energy eggs yolks are not so good. Suet is much better - it gives me long-lasting energy.

Of course suet is better. Mammal fat is perfect food.

Suet isn't really meant to be a huge source of nutrients, organ meats is where you find those. Fat is a carrier of nutrients, allows nutrient absorption, protein synthesis etc. and the body's energy source.
