Got any ground beef recipes?
« on: March 09, 2010, 08:52:24 am »
I am a couple of months into the raw diet after 20+ years of being a vege. Trouble is that my girlfriend and I are having difficulty with the taste. No doubt time improves this but in the meantime does anyone have any taste altering potions for ground beef, etc.

We normally ate mild Indian (from India) vege stuff before.
Cheers

Just making sure, are you eating grass-fed beef? supermarket grain fed beef tastes awful.I think if one has very good quality beef then it's supose to taste sweet.

At first we only had access to supermarket beef. totally tasteless. Next batch was no drugs organic beef finished off on corn bought from a butcher. That was excellent. Verrry tasty. Next we got 100% pasture fed. Not so good bordering on bad. We have some from a different farm but haven't tried it yet.

The grass fed ground beef I get is pretty tasteless

I'll still tend to eat it alone, but I find some egg and/or avocado makes a more enjoyable combination.

heres something, but I've never tried it.

Beef Pâté
1 Serving
4 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
4 tablespoons unsalted raw butter
1 slice fresh garlic
5 to 8 ounces ground beef
1 teaspoon diced red onions
1 egg

Blenderize seeds in an 8-ounces jar on medium speed for 5
seconds. Warm butter and garlic in a 4-ounces jar, capped with
blender washer/blades/base, immersed in a bowl of mildly hot
water for 5 minutes. Blenderize butter and garlic on low speed
for 5 seconds. Pour butter/garlic into seed flour in an 8-ounces
jar, stir and blenderize on medium speed for 5 seconds. Place
meat and all ingredients into food processor and blend until they
are paste.

I have to admit that some grassfed meats I buy are tasteless and of low quality sometimes(being partially grainfed perhaps). My sources of raw wild game on the other hand have always been of superior quality and taste. Ground raw meats don`t anyway taste of much, and one should avoid even such minimal processing.

I don't like the taste of ground beef.
I find whole cuts of meat are more flavorful than ground beef.
The bigger the chunk of flesh, the tastier.

I get it only from one small town butcher who can be trusted. I'm out of grass-finished, so bought grain-finished from him - it tastes excellent.
Ground beef from the store tasted disgusting - I threw out the last I bought.

Taste altering - Add or mix a raw egg yolk, and add spice(s) -curry powder works for some things, hot pepper, use your imagination.

i used to love indian food... i can't tolerate this, but if i could i like egg yolk on top of ground beef and a blend of spices (turmeric, paprika, garlic, cumin) mixed in with the egg yolk, also onions... kind of a steak tartare i guess.. i'd eat this if i could :)

i get an 80/20 ground beef from a local farm and tastes so incredibly fresh and divine! weird, but it reminds me of donuts for some reason.  not anything close in taste to what i've had from whole foods (grain finished or even grass fed) which are mediocre by comparison.

IMO some grassfed meats (perhaps partially grainfed esp. in winter) are not worse than wild game - e.g. horse meat, goat meat, Limousine beef.
