Hernias?

Hey just wondering I know raw paleo pretty much helps every disease known to man but what about hernias? On raw paleo diet are they prevented?

  I wouldn't be surprised. I've had far fewer aches and pains on this RPD diet, and I've noticed how muscle-condition is much better etc.

This is a form of injury, due to weak tissues but I don't see how things could reverse completely to normal. Just like in the case of varicose veins, once they are overgrown, it would probably take a very long time for the body to replace those cells naturally.

The best prevention against hernias is to not lift loads too heavy and in improper positions. Then next would be regular exercise and stretching to keep those muscles strong and flexible. Diet would probably help keep the muscle tone a little better but I don't think a raw paleo diet would have saved someone who got a hernia from lifting a 300lb television in a jerky fashion from tearing those muscles.

I once, decades ago,  came across someone who'd got a hernia from excessive masturbation(from a  SAD-diet, of course). No idea how that's possible.

Here in FL, a man who shops at one of my suppliers (www.bmorganics.com is their web site) got a hernia from obsessive weightlifting. As a result, he's had to stop some forms of exercise while limiting severaly others. He's been eating lots of raw fatty beef (pre-frozen) and some raw fully-fermented dairy (jersey cow milk; in the form of that "pima" stuff) for several months, in addition to the usual raw food stuffs such as fruits, vegetables, and the pain at the site of his hernia has significantly diminished as a result. (Although, he's still considering surgery as a fix, although not the standard kind, but some other less invasive kind that doesn't involve that thing placed in the abdomen to keep stuff from coming out).

So hernia is more of a thing that you get if you underexercise and the muscle gets weak or you over stress the muscle?

Overstress the muscle. Remember, the man i mentioned was obsessively lifting weights for a while. He was built. 2 hours of daily lifting is not a "lack of exercise". Straining on the toilet is another good example of how overdoing it is more often causative. It's not that you're too weak to "get it out", it's just your putting too much effort into something that shouldn't take so much effort (aka squat dum-dum!).

    Maybe that's me.  Seems like everyone in my family got hernias from even lifting nothing even when they were young.  That would make me have the same genetics, you would suppose.  I don't refrain from lifting heavy things, albeit not as heavy as many of you guys could probably lift, I am narrow framed (or was very).  People have long said my body movements are with grace.  I guess I consider first (even be it unconsciously) most of the time, instead of grabbing and lifting without thinking first.  I've never had a hernia, thank goodness.  Can a strained muscle count?

Oops. Forgot to take a jab at the original question. I may be an optimist in my thinking, but if a person can place beef strips and unheated honey on 3 degree burns and have them heal within a month, then to think that a hernia could not heal on a healing diet such as raw paleo or primal is no different than when dentists claim that gums don't grow back after they've receded. Don't doubt the power of the body when given the proper nutrients to work with.

    I did once have a strained muscle, but I didn't exactly do that to myself nor occur on its own.  Someone a lot bigger pulled (major muscle tear/shred) it, not that there was any harm intended.  The muscles were smallish.  Just wondered for a sec if that could be called a hernia.

Just recently I pulled my abdomen pretty bad lifting something at a bad angle and it popped out of my stomach. I would be worried if this hasn't happened many times before in the past. I seem to be prone to these kind of pulls, as I've gotten them during yoga and other non weight bearing exercise. I believe for myself they are linked to dehydration.

Anyway, my only point is a hernia is far worse then this, and to my knowledge only refers to the area at the very lower part of the abdomen, creates constant pain, and like it says in the link either does not go down at all, or exists constantly unless one is lieing down or creating pressure.

Herniation is when a muscle, which is containing your guts, becomes torn so there is a weak spot in it. Your guts put pressure on this weak spot and it can become a hole, and it can become bigger and bigger and you can have a huge sack of skin containing guts which have spilled past the muscle.

I've had the tears at the lower part of the abdomen, pre-cursing hernias before, but nothing needing medical intervention. It occurred from over-exercise, lack of sleep, lack of meat/fat and excess of carbs(fruit/nuts). The worst occurred from doing maximum jumps(height and distance) when I had not recovered from hanging leg-raises to failure etc...

I just rested until they healed up. I still have the scars though.. OMG I DON'T! I was going to say I have the scars still in the muscle of my lower abdomen and one in my neck, but they're GONE! I had them for ages and I was just being really careful not to make more, but the scars stayed. Being Raw ZC, as well as not getting further problems, lots of old problems/remnants of are also healing up. I hadn't noticed this one until just now though, awesome! Clicks in my elbows from over-zealous arm-locks is another thing, which after years, only now with raw zc seem to be going. It makes sense of course seeing as clicks are generally from inflammation, the reduction of which was my prime reason for going ZC.

I believe you Miles. I don't expect anyone to believe this, but I used to have an inguinal hernia that would pop out most of the time and I had to push it back in. At its worst it got so persistent that it would pop out again shortly after I pushed it back in. It was rather painful, especially after being on my feet for more than half an hour. It was becoming an increasing disability. I had been thinking of getting the mesh surgery but I'm so glad my physician said it wasn't yet necessary and that I decided to wait. Amazingly, I haven't seen it in over a year. As I recall, the improvements started not long after greatly cutting back on my intake of nightshades, squashes and carbs, and there has been zero pain no matter how long I'm on my feet. There is just a remnant swelling where the hernia used to be. My tissues were apparently not beyond repair and dietary change apparently did the trick, for I made no other significant changes at the time. One thing I've learned from RPD is never to say never when it comes to problems that can be healed through RPD. RPD doesn't heal everything, but it does way more than most people think.

Not surprisingly, in connective tissue disorders and other autoimmune disorders, the immune system can attack the body's own smooth muscle tissue proteins, including those in the muscles that are involved in hernias. I actually just managed to find the scar tissue in my neck, but it's a lot smaller, barely able to detect it. I haven't been able locate the ones I had in my abdomen at all. The elbow clicks(from locking out my elbow, and then contracting my bicep[not fast]) are gone in my right elbow, which was the less bad, but are still in my left one, just to a lesser extent than before.
