Many questions-from a fervent beginner.
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:17:56 am »
I have quite a few questions to be answered and I apologize for the volume. I don’t have much free time to get to my computer unfortunately. I don’t know whether everything from Aajonus’s book is correct for me so I need some other opinions. If it is too many questions feel free to scowl and dismiss me freely.
1.What temperature should the meat stay above and below?
2.What are the safest and most nutritious fish?
3.What other seafood are valuable to consume?
4.Is plain beef fat healthy?
5.Is pork a healthy meat?
6.What parts of the animals hold especial nutritional value?
7.Is honey nutritious, bad, or neutral?
8.What meat digests the easiest?(I don’t know that I have the resources to make high meat at this time)
9.What vegetables and vegetables digest the easiest and are nutritious?
10.What is the best way for bodily hydration?
Thank you!

1) Temperature should never exceed 40 degrees celsius/104 degrees fahrenheit. Raw meat should not be frozen(0 degrees celsius), on an ideal level, but , realistically, many RPDers are forced to buy prefrozen meats, so it is sometimes necessary to keep them frozen.

2) All raw wildcaught fish are safe; avoid all farmed fish like the plague. All raw fish are nutritious, but there is a preference among RVAFers for very fatty deep-sea fish for various reasons.

3) There's raw wildcaught shellfish of all kinds such as raw scallops, raw mussels, raw oysters, raw lobster, raw crabs etc. etc. Oh, and raw seaweed.

4) If the beef fat is raw and 100% grassfed it's healthy. Otherwise not.

5) Pork is usually unhealthy as almost all pork is fed on grain-filled diets(often 100% grains). Only buy raw pastured pork.

6) All parts have value of some sort, though cartilaginous organs like raw lungs and the hard parts like the bones are pretty pointless to eat. Raw heart, liver, tongue, kidneys, suet and marrow are the ones commonly eaten by RPDers(when they can get them). If you can get raw eyeballs or raw brains and other hard-to-get raw organs that's even better.

7) Raw honey shouldn't be eaten by those intolerant to raw carbs but everyone else can eat it in moderate amounts. IMO, raw honeycomb is superior and always raw(if not found within a jar).Liquid honey, however, is able to be labelled raw on a legal basis, even if it is not genuinely raw at all. My view, based on multiple accounts, is that raw honey should only be consumed occasionally, like in Palaeo times. Eating raw honey to primal diet levels is definitely unhealthy.

8) Other than "high-meats" and slightly-aged raw meats, it is the raw softer organs such as raw kidneys and raw liver which digest the fastest.

9) No idea. I would avoid raw vegetables with high antinutrient levels such as raw broccoli or raw kale. The general rule is that if the raw veg isn't tasty when raw, you should generally avoid it. My personal favourites are:- raw samphire/carrots/radishes/seaweed. I rarely eat raw veg, just a few times a year.

10) Best method is to drink high alkaline mineral water from a natural spring. I heavily disagree with AV's notion of eating raw fruit/raw veggie-juice for water as that didn't work for me.

Exactly,. I've edited it to "100". I used to be a spelling-bee expert at school but unfortunately I type too fast to avoid making errors by pressing the wrong key, inadvertently.

Hey thank you Tyler for your reply. I have a couple of clarifications-
1. If the meat has been at room temp 70F for a while will it still be good to eat?
4. Is fat as nutritional as meat?
7. How much honey per week would be tops? Does it help digest meat at all? I may just skip it.
8. Are raw celery and cucumber juice okay?
10. About the water: AV said that we are actually delipid instead of dehydrated. How much water do we actually need to drink per day? Is it just enough to not feel thirsty, or do we actually need more?

And one spare question: Should fruit be avoided or does one peice per day help digest?

If anyone else has any good advice feel free to answer! I appreciate it greatly. -[

I agree with Aajonus on delipidating plain water.  I don't like plain water.

When I'm thirsty I drink coconut juice with coconut meat (fat), we prefer it with ice or chilled in the ref.
Very refreshing and stays refreshing because of the fat.
We got lots of this stuff here.

I'd get watermelons for "water", but alone it is not as quenching because it has no fat in it so I eat my raw animal meat and fat to quench that thirst.

When all else is not available, I squeeze a calamansi in water, add a touch of raw honey for "lemonade". (just a touch of honey, 1-2 teaspoons)

Worst case, a sip of plain old water.

Celery and cucumber I eat from time to time.

Fruit sensitivity depends on person to person and what kind of fruit.

coconut meat is fatty, avocado is fatty, durian is fatty and sweet.

My 5 year old girl is sensitive to sweet fruit, she's got lots of decay while her brothers and parents do not.  So just recently I restricted her from non fatty fruit and rice.

Room-temp is, of course, fine, for any long period. Fat should be eaten as well as lean meats. Certainly eating only lean meats or only raw fat is not recommended. Raw honey should (IMO) be eaten only once or twice a week at most, and then only perhaps 8 ounces. I personally usually only eat raw honey(comb) during the earlier summer months and 1 or 2  (8-ounce/10-ounce) tub(s) of heather honeycomb every fortnight is enough for me, during that period.

raw celery and cucumber juice sounds very nutrient-poor to me. A big waste of time.

I ignore AV's advice on water. I find that I just drink mineral water (alkaline mineral water from natural springs), and then usually only till thrist is quenched, with perhaps a little more than that in the summer months. Don't use fruit to digest meats, they are quite different foods that interfere with each others' digestion. But it is generally better to eat some raw fruit at other times of the day. Going raw zero-carb only works for some people, not others.

Okay thank you good samaritan and Tyler. I believe that my questions are now cleared up!
I think that I may go with 1/2 tbsp honey in the morning unless it makes me crave sugar bad.
I may eat 2-4 small pieces of fruit per week.
Are tomatoes healthy? They seem to digest really easily and I can grow them where I live.
I will probably be eating mostly (fresh) beef and lamb meat. I will try to get some different parts such as marrow and kidney. I will probably get seafood 1-2 days per week. Fresh salmon or halibut or misc seafood will do.
I won't eat any leafy vegetables and may only drink hydrating juice when I don't feel hungry for meat but need something hydrating.
I'm sorrry Good Samaritan that I may not be able to get those produce items as readily as you because of my location.
Is purified water okay if it has chlorine and flouride removed?
I am happy to have found some people wiser than me on the subject because I don't trust AV's exact teachings for myself and needed some real time advice. Thanks again. -\

If by "purified water" , you mean "distilled water", then avoid it like the plague as it is notorious for leaching minerals from your body. I believe people have even died from drinking only or mostly distilled water for long periods.

Tomatoes are fine for most RPDers, though those who can't handle any raw carbs seem to have a reaction to them in particular. If you get salmon ONLY get raw wild salmon as farmed salmon(something like 95%+ of all salmon these days) is extremely unhealthy.

I'm against tomatoes and nightshades in general.
Some paleo people call these veggies "not paleo" veggies.
I've banned these nightshades in our household.
We're an eczematic family so it makes sense for us.

I agree with Aajonus regarding the issue of water.  You can squeeze a lemon in water so that it has more structure.

My wife and I had detrimental side effects on distilled water when we did that for several months some 10 years ago.

Aajonus is a good guy, he means well and those are the things that work for him.

My own discovery is that I'm allergic to dairy.  And I'm not so into those raw green juices because my tummy acts up on them.  Which leads me to believe that most veggies need to be cooked.

I get now purified tap water which I believe is reverse osmosis. Could I add anything to it to make it best? I never buy farmed salmon and won't buy meat from the supermarket anymore. I am buying my fish from the local fish shop. I hope that they would not lie about the salmon being non-farmed.

if you only have r.o. water, add some form of minerals to it, whether fresh lemon or lime juice, some food grade clay, celtic sea salt, etc.
the reason is that true spring water has minerals in it (the TDS or total dissolved solids) and if you stir the r.o water with added ingredients you are bringing the water back closer to living. its still a pale shadow of living spring water though.
