Buteyko Method: Learning to Breath Properly
« on: May 09, 2010, 12:35:58 pm »
Buteyko Method, is this another tool we can use in our quest for perfect health?

My friend Jackie lent me a book entitled Every Breath you take by Dr. Paul Ameisen

The core teaching is:

- We need carbon dioxide
- each human cell needs  specific concentration of carbon dioxide : 7%
- When human life first began on the planet, the composition of the atmosphere was  more than 20%  carbon dioxide.
- air sacs evolved out of the theory that atmospheric carbon dioxide today is a lot less. Lungs provide 6.5% carbon dioxide
- An important factor that seriously affects that level of necessary carbon dioxide in the lings is over-breathing -- hyperventilation.
- when carbon dioxide is low due to over-breathing, this causes a chemical reaction which makes it hard for oxygen to be released from the blood stream into the tissues of the body.  The tisshues of the body then become starved of oxygen.

Do you have experience with Buteyko Method?

Don't know about the Buteyko Method but when I'm in deep meditation my breathing slows down to 2 breaths a minute. A 40 min meditation session energizes the mind and body more than any exercise is capable of doing. The more I can slow down my breathing the more energy I get when I finish my session. The key really is stopping your thoughts and increasing your awareness of reality. When it is done correctly a huge inflow of energy is felt that refreshes the mind and gives vitality to the body.

Haven't heard of this method, but my anxiety book explains that people during panic attacks are exhaling more CO2 than normal and a quick fix to this is to breath into a paper bag which retrieves some of the excess CO2 expelled.
