Probably closer to 1000 to 1 just because raw meat is so demonized in mainstream society.

In the cooked paleo diet forum they believe in bacteria, parasites and taking prescription drugs.

A priori it depends on what you mean by paleo dieters. In particular on how many years they have been on their diet.

One way to estimate the ratio would be to count by means of this forum how many of us stayed on RPD for more than one year (for instance) and then ask cooked paleo dieters to do the same in their forums.

An estimate of the absolute number of RP or CP dieters worldwide would also be of great interest.

In the cooked paleo diet forum they believe in bacteria, parasites.

I also believe in bacteria and parasites. :)

But I also believe that they are not our enemies.

It all depends. If we were to check the statistics by relying on online forum activity then our forum easily surpasses most or all of the cooked-palaeodiet forums. Paleofood, for example, has far fewer daily posts and just c.280-odd members. The yahoo groups cooked-palaeodiets have similiar numbers(no idea re cavemanforum, the no1 cooked-paleodiet forum,  but I think we have more members). Also, like Alphagruis said, how long people stay on such diets is the key. I would guess that most cooked-palaeos merely temporarily dabble in the diet for weight-loss reasons and the like and often quit the diet, whereas rawists are far more likely to stick to a mostly-raw diet given better health-results, plus they've usually only discovered RVAF diets once they've already tried and failed with all other dietary combinations.

Whatever the case, we should be aiming to have as many rawpalaeos as there are raw vegans as the latter far outnumber the cooked-palaeos anyway, and a raw vegan diet, IMO, is closer to us re dietary beliefs(well, that is, it's easier , on a psychological level, for someone to consider transferring from a raw vegan diet to a raw, palaeolithic diet than it is for someone to switch from a cooked, palaeo diet to a rawpalaeo diet).

I also believe in bacteria, parasites and taking prescription drugs.  There are bacteria and parasites, and people do take prescription drugs, although not me.

I'd guess the ratio between CPDers and RPDers is probably closer to 100:1.  I'm basing this off personal observations; I don't meet a lot of either group, so don't think the ratio could much exceed 100:1.  A lot of people certainly try CPD, but grains and beans are extremely addictive and most can't handle the withdrawl symptoms.  I've had several relatives try CPD, but abandoned ship within a month.  I admittedly fall off the wagon occasionally, particularly in social situations, although being RPD I've developed an affinity for the taste of raw meat, organs and eggs so getting back on the wagon is a seamless, swift process.

There are far more RVAFers around than one would think. Aajonus estimated, some years ago, that there were at least 20,000 Primal Dieters in North America alone, given the number of people who attend his Potlucks in the various States etc. And by now the number will have grown considerably what with media reports etc.

I'd guess the ratio between CPDers and RPDers is probably closer to 100:1.

I pretty much was born and spent my first few years CPDing.  We ate cooked meat on the bone, fresh raw fruit, snacked on celery.  We ate some other foods, but now that I know what SAD is, it was much closer to CPD.  If I thought that was SAD, I wonder how many more people think they're SAD but are practicing a modified version of CPD.

When I started at GI2MR forum, I thought raw was 100% raw.  I had always eaten raw food, so when I went 100% Living Foods Lifestyle, I just thought that was raw.  Then 100% primal diet, I thought that 100% raw was called raw, and I didn't know some people did it part way.  Then, paying attention to what everyone said about themselves on that forum, I realized some were raising their raw from 0% to 5%, and calling themselves raw.  That's fine with me, but then me saying my 50% raw wasn't raw, I guess I'm undercutting myself.

I wonder how many people are raw in the world and to what degree?

RawZi makes an excellent point.

How raw is raw? 10%? 50%? 80%? 100%?

For that matter, what is paleo? Is it unprocessed, unmodified, unrefined foods? Is it lack of grains? Is it omni or meat only?

Put raw and paleo together and things get even stickier. Is raw paleo mostly raw meat, mostly raw veggies, and the occasional grain (like rice)? Is raw paleo 100% raw animal foods? Does it include dairy? Are spices allowed?

It is exactly for these reasons that I place little stock in identifying labels.

Dr. Cordain recently estimated that the number of CP dieters worldwide has exceeded a million.
