Couple of questions - any advice would be great

Hi guys,

I have found a good source of 100% grass fed beef and lamb. Any recommendations on what cuts to buy (Currently going for lambs liver, lamb shoulder, and fatty cuts of beef)?

Was thinking next time I may ask for beef tongue; Do you take the skin off? Would it be an idea to slice it thinly, and have slices as a snack?

Should I go for mutton over lamb?

Also, I have been strongly advised not to touch raw fish, as it is nearly impossible to get a good quality source (I live in the UK). Dr Mercola also reinforces these views on fish consumption on his website.

Anyone here got another view on this matter? Is there a particular species of fish that in your opinion is safe to eat raw?

Hi,

For cuts I recommend lamb heart, kidney, leg. Try getting beef marrow bones too.

Mutton has more fat which is a plus. The meat might be tougher to digest than lamb.

Raw fish is a delicious addition to your diet and a supplies nutrients not found in land mammals. The safest fish to consume raw is tuna, much lesser risk of parasites. Wild-caught Salmon is also great but has a high chance of parasites. Eating prefrozen seafood should remove the risk of parasites. Also try going for shellfish such as oysters (very nutrient dense).

What on earth do you do with the beef marrow bones!!!

Anyone know what to do with the beef tongue? Other than eat it of course!

Eat the marrow of course! It's full of nutrients, fats, stem cells, etc.

I haven't had good experience with tongue as all I tried was a bad beef tongue with a repulsive taste and smell. The whole tongue is edible with the back part being the most palatable. I'd slice it thinly.

Sorry, but how do you eat bone!!! Hehe. Is the marrow inside? If so, how do you get it out? How do you receive them from the butcher, as whole bones?

The marrow is the creamy part inside, you can use a knife to scoop it out or push it out.

They can be sold whole or sawed into smaller portions. Maybe you can ask the butcher to cut them?

Sawing a full bone in half should be adequate, no more should be necessary, and of course it shall preserve better the more intact it is left.

Raw mutton over raw lamb, all the time. Unfortunately, raw mutton, unlike raw lamb, is only available seasonally(IE not during the summer).

Raw tongue takes time for newbies to get used to. As a newbie, I would first cut out the stringy, darker parts of the tongue and the tip of the tongue and just eat the raw, slab-like pinker parts. But, as time went on, I got used to the taste of raw meats in general, and was able to eat the whole raw tongue and enjoy it.

As for raw fish, avoid farmed fish(almost all salmon and trout and prawns are farmed). Things like raw sardines/sharks/swordfish/mackerel/sprats/kingfish etc. are fine and always wild.

Forget cuts. Just buy the cheapest available as it doesn't matter(exception is raw ground/minced beef which is too processed).

For the excellent raw marrow, use an oyster-knife to poke out some of the top-layer of marrow and use a normal knife to scour the marrow in a circular motion out of the bone.

In terms of the bone marrow bones, is it really difficult to saw them in half?
I'm gonna feel an idiot asking the butcher for bones!!

Also Tyler, in terms of the raw fish that you mentioned, would you recommend freezing them for a couple of weeks to reduce any parasite risk? (I guess you may not be too concerned about parasites anyhow).
Or would you just eat them fresh?
Can you use stuff from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons etc?
Would you add Tuna to that list?

I have never seen tuna that isn't wild, don't know if it exists. I used to buy tuna from tescos a lot. You can also find wild salmon in supermarkets if you look hard enough. They used to sell it in sainsbury's and they'll defo be some in waitrose and marks&spencer.

I have wife and kids who eat cooked food so I make beef soup stock from the left over bone marrow.
I use the soup as a method for my wife to eat marrow.
She plops it in the soup and eats it.

I have been on this diet for ten months and most of the suggestions on this page still make me want to vomit so truthfully the only way you can figure out what you can tolerate is to try a little of everything, it won't take long for you to figure out what you prefer.  If you are lucky you will become one of these people who looks forward to eating raw meat.  Never happened for me.

I can't stand the taste of prefrozen seafood and only eat the stuff fresh. Anyway, the whole parasite issue is way overblown and a needless scare.

I would avoid anything bought from a supermarket other than possibly organic fruit or mineral water, as regards food. This is because they routinely add various chemicals as preservatives etc. I would vomit on the 2 or 3 occasions I bought and ate  raw wild fish from Sainsbury's supermarket.

Tuna is still mostly wild, though I hear they may be farming them more and more, as time goes by.

What are your thoughts on combining raw meat with raw vegetables? OK?

Also what about combining raw meat with Organic Coconut Oil?
Just trying to find ways off getting through these initial stages as easily as possible. Also I need to put on weight so could get the additional calories this way.

So, just to confirm, minimal chewing of raw meat is required, just chop into very small pieces and get it down ya!

Lots of chewing is only necessary for cooked foods. Just chew once, twice at most and bolt it down.

Don't mix raw meats with raw veg. They require different digestive juices etc.  This becomes even more of a problem in old age as one's digestive system starts deteriorating then.

Personally, I would avoid any kind of processed stuff even raw coconut oil. Better to just eat raw cococnuts and separately from eating raw meats.

Well, I had serious digestive issues as well as very low blood sugar levels by the time I went rawpalaeo. I thought at the time that my digestive issues were a more immediate problem and found that not mixing raw plant foods and raw animal foods worked for me. The blood-sugar-levels issues I figured would resolve themselves at a later date.
