The Daily Chop
« on: December 03, 2010, 11:45:36 am »
Hey. I decided to make a journal here. So you know a little about me, I am 14 years old, play baseball, run, mountain bike and I have been getting into rowing as of late. I currently eat carnivorously, though not raw yet. Hopefully I'll learn to enjoy the taste of raw meat. 8)
I do eat some raw cheese sometimes, though I dropped it a few days ago and I've lost 6 pounds since then....though at 5'6" and 105-115 I don't really need to drop any pounds. Also, do any of you guys use VFFs? I do. O0

Screwed up day eating wise. I felt real bad today because I think my protein/fat ratio has been way off the past day or two. So with no access to any meat, I just had to eat- there was this really bad pain in my side. So I ate from the animal world- pint of sour cream, half pound of cheese. High fat, at least. Hopefully no constipation but the pain I was getting from too little fat for a couple days was getting unbearable.

I did a 5k trail race this morning. I got their late, so the race started about 5 minutes before. I ended up passing about half the people, but if I had started on time I would have been 10th overall out of a good number of people with about 24 minutes. First race in my vibrams. O0

You seem to stick to the dogma that we should eat animal food only, preferring to eat dairy rather than any plant food. Excuse me, but that looks crazy to me. Animals, hominids and early humans have not distinguished nor categorized plants from animals. Such a separation is artificial, just like all categorizations we make. Nature is a continuum.

I agree, although I will eat treats of raw cheese if I was starved without meat and fat eating some avocados, waiting a bit then eating some coconut oil and/or nuts seems much better then gorging on dairy. However everyone is different... Do plant foods make you sick or is there another reason you are not eating them. You are very young and you are growing, the most important stage of your life, I think it would be important to at least add a little plant foods. There are so many that are very low in carbs and even low in fiber. Although at your age carbs should be the least of your worries dude! As an active young man as long as you keep away from processed foods, eat as much raw as possible and don't grains you will thrive! Don't worry about whether its animal or plant.

Plant foods give me a stomach ache. I subscribe mostly to the ZIOH philosophy, though not totally on the grain fed walmart beef. -v

I feel better with unheated pastured unsalted (cultured) dairy too, than whole or blended fruits and vegetables.

I tried about a hundred different pairs of VFFs on.  I'd rather be barefoot too.  I love MBTs though.  Not paleo to wear a thick sole, but they're so comfortable, and mimicking the way the Masai move their foot.

I think they look weirder than VFFs anyway, so I'll stick with what I have.

I agree, they do, but the VFF doesn't fit my foot.  You're lucky.

VFFs don't fit my foot either. My big toe is crammed against the front while there is a 1/2 inch space on my smaller toes.

I decided to see what my body fat was today. I used a tape measure and the calculator from here: http://www.living-a-healthy-lifestyle.com/bodyfat.html
According to it I am 10.65% body fat. Probably should go down a bit as my testosterone goes up as I get a little older.

Hey steak ;-)
I have been running for some time in VFFs and the same "problem"-they stretch out though so after running in them for a while your big toe should fit in them perfectly-at least thats in my case now (I don't mind that theres bit of too much space for the smaller toes)

Okay. I stepped in dog waste the other day. I have heard you can wash them but am afraid they might shrink. Your take?

Why don't you wash them with a hose/river/whatever? Besides, why don't you just look where you're going and not step in dog crap? O_O

I've washed mine and they held up fine. I did run them on cold water though just in case the hot water would disturb the adhesive.

Got it. So they don't shrink at all?

They didn't appear to. I can't say with 100% certainty though as mine are not as tight fitting as yours.

Look at it this way; running them in cold water and air drying is no different than using them while doing stuff in the water. If they don't shrink there they shouldn't shrink in the machine. Be sure to air dry though.
Or you could just walk in some water for a minute like miles suggested. I've done this after walking through a field that geese were occupying and got all the shit off my shoes without a problem. I only used the washing machine because my VFFs started smelling like sweaty feet. :)

Not like you're wearing them anywhere formal anyway.

I get it- but they do. It's probably the fiber.

Problably you have eaten them too rarely.
Eat them regularly, every day, choose the healthy ones and it will be ok.

I would rather say: choose the good ones and eat it only as long as they are good, because who knows what's healthy for someone at a given time, and in which amount?
