My name is Robert and I want to introduce myself with a little background.

This is going to sound crazy but I was drawn to this diet bc of my dog. I rescued Keiko about 6 months ago and was researching the best diet for him. I kept reading about how raw meat was the best for him. Also noticed how everyone was so shocked about why I would do that to him... lol. I feed him mainly chicken and with the adding red meat every few weeks. Everyone talks about how white his teeth are, soft his coat is and just generally how healthy he is. Granted he is only a year old but I can see a difference in him in comparison to most dogs.

Then I started thinking... if people have so much misconception about dogs, maybe they do about humans. If he looks this great... why shouldn’t this go for humans to? I was always scared of underdone meat bc of all the possible KILLER salmonella out there. So, I started asking people if they or anyone they have ever known gotten salmonella poisoning and not one person has. Once that fear was gone it started making sense why raw meat would be good for me.

After Christmas I am going to start my new diet. Its perfect bc I get to indulge in my old favorites before I go cold turkey. One last FEAST :-) if you will.

I do have one question, is there a good newbie book or guide I can get? I would rather go mostly meat with some vegetables/fruit/nuts. I want to include the last three bc I noticed even my dog likes to eat vegs and grass... I am guessing to add some roughage and since I cant eat bones I would think the nuts would act like the bones for him... which is helping keep my teeth and jaws strong. I don’t need the book to go through the history BUT I dont mind if it does. I need more of what to eat and how much, how to prepare food and what food not to eat. 

I have an active lifestyle; I play sports 2-3 times a week, currently do p90x workouts and according my dr. I have the blood pressure of a 15 year old and very low cholesterol levels.

I recommend this book, but I did read the original version in French and I don’t know if this  translation is good:
Anapsology, a very new approach to human health by Guy-Claude Burger

There is also – but I didn’t read them:
The Stone Age Diet by Walter E. Voegtlin

Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price

The Fat of The Land by Viljamur Stefansson

What to eat? My answer is: whatever smells good and tastes good as long as it is raw and neither modern nor typically Neolithic. This excludes cereals, dairy and everything processed, heated above 40°C, meats and eggs from animals grain fed and farmed fish.

I would not advise feeding your dog too much raw chicken. For one thing, chickens nowadays, even organic ones, are fed on very unhealthy 100 percent (usually processed-)grain-filled diets, whereas wild fowl eat more natural omnivorous diets consisting of things like earthworms, insects, and only a few grains. Raw muscle-meats from grassfed animals, plus some raw organs is better(if you can get raw wild game at cheaper rates than grassfed meats, like I can, that would be even better for your pet).

As for books, there is currently no real rawpalaeodiet book. Burger's book comes close, though. Either cooked-palaeodiet books By Voegtlin, Cordain et al might prove partially useful, as would raw, non-palaeo books by the likes of Vonderplanitz - just ignore the faulty other half of their arguments(ie the pro-cooked, or anti-palaeo aspects).

Thank you both for your responses...

The books are pretty helpful so far. It at least points me in the right direction and the thoughts behind the theory.

I am learning about the processed foods now. Looks like Kieko is about to get an upgrade :-) I guess we will be eating the same things!!

Again thank you all for pointing me in the general direction.

I am not sure where to post but I have read most of the links provided and I have read through much of the forums.

I like more and more what I read. I also understand a little more. I know I should visit farmer's markets and order grass fed meats. I also know a little knowledge can be more dangerous than not having any :-)

I can’t figure out what to order and where to start. I read internal organs are good but too much isnt. Apparently, there are certain ratios which are good. I figure once I get started and my body will tell me what it needs by taste and cravings. However, since this is new I am not sure, where to start.

What would help the most (and I know it varies from person to person) is a general outline. I read eating 2 times a day is good but others eat once a day and others more often. Some don’t eat any carbs while others do... some 1 lb of meat a day and other 2+. 
So a week plan would help me out greatly.

For instance:
Monday -
brunch - couple eggs half lbs beef steaks, apple and a carrot
dinner  - 1 lb oysters, orange, berries

Etc. just some type of guideline, from a fairly active person who has enough energy to make it through their workouts with out an energy shortage.

I'm afraid that we all come to RVAF diets having suffered appalling but highly individual health-problems from years and years of being on cooked/processed SAD diets. Therefore, it makes far more sense to experiment a lot on your own to see, for example, whether a raw omnivorous or raw carnivorous diet is for you(makes sense to try raw omnivore first, IMO, and only try raw zero-carb if you find you cannot tolerate raw plant foods).

For now, you could try a mixture. That's what I did when I first started. I would go and buy small amounts of widely different raw animal foods, ranging from raw squid to raw swordfish/raw grassfed beef and grassfed organs like raw liver/raw kidney etc./raw wild hare carcasses. Eventually, I settled on a diet consisting of mostly raw wild game but also and raw(wildcaught seafood), with a lesser emphasis on raw(semi-organic) fruit/veg.

In the cours of your experimentation, you will find that you thrive or fail with raw plant foods, that you do better with raw eggs/raw dairy  in your diet or have an allergy to one or the other etc.
