Fresh meat vs. frozen meat
« on: February 04, 2011, 03:44:11 am »
Fresh meat is always the best option, no question.

What's about frozen meat? Does anybody here have problems with frozen animal food?

I personally never had an issue with frozen meats (beside the impairment of taste).

A Vonderplanitz claims the animals he put on frozen foods developed skin disorders.
Hannibal made a good point a while back that where he lives the temperature is below freezing for a good chunk of the year, so it could be considered natural to eat some frozen meat.

I personally drive 20 miles each week to get 10-14 pounds of fresh GF beef

I have heard of people not reacting well to frozen animal foods in general compared to fresh foods. I wish I could get good, grass-fed meat unfrozen, but I don't have an option because of my location. I am sure it's hard for most people to get everything fresh..

I have no issues with prefrozen meats but I have heard of one  claim of issues by a Primal Dieter, that's all.

I would really be happy if I just had to drive 20 miles to get some quality GF beef... ;-)

I am happy about it that is for sure. Now I am speaking to someone who will be supplying bison, deer, and wild boar from southern Az. The trip is about 100 miles, one way. I will probably buy a lot and end up eating high meat and jerky for a while!

For me, Bison ist the best of the best! It could be one reason to emigrate to USA. hehe. In Germany it's nearly impossible to get grass fed bison meat... They all fatten them up with grains and are proud of it. Unfortunately in most cases "grass fed" is still a foreign word for our few bison farmers.

I don't have "issues" with frozen meat, but somehow I find fresh meat more filling.  ???

More filling?? Anyway, fresh is always best.

Do you have good sources for high quality 100% grass fed meat in Germany?

My suppliers are all located in Schleswig-Holstein and Holland.
I'm still looking for some good farmers in Hessen and Baden-Würtemberg. 100% grass fed + grass finished is still relatively rare.

I eat wild meat mainly.

yes more filling. When I eat frozen meat for longer periods I find that my hunger goes up, it's weird but i get satiated easier when then switching back to meats that haven't been frozen.

Hi Löwenherz,

did you ever tried the Weidelandfleisch? I think it is grassfed and finished.

Hi Noel,

yes I know this organisation. Weidewelt-Frankenwald is a network with many farmers (round about 50 ?). Unfortunately most of the beef is not 100 % grass-fed as I found out 2-3 years ago. Many farmers (but not all) use concentrated feedingstuffs during winter time...

Viele Grüße
