Anyone else see or hear about this??  It confirms what I have often said, that it is poor processing and handling of raw foods that cause problems, not the food itself.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/12/101202151251.htm

From the article:

"In response to this outbreak, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture proposed legislation supported by the Connecticut Department of Public Health that included three control measures for raw milk: the strengthening of prominently displayed labels containing a detailed warning, increasing the frequency of raw milk testing from quarterly to monthly, and limiting raw milk sale to farm premises."

This sounds like a move on behalf of the dairy industry interests to stifle competition.

I got very sick from raw milk when I followed the "Primal Diet".

Raw milk is frequently a cause of disease, as I found out later. Therefore a strict quality monitoring is essential.

It's better to eat raw meat... :)

Your position doesn't sound very consistent, Low. If you believe microbes cause disease then you probably shouldn't be eating raw flesh.

Raw milk is like any other food digestible for some, not so much for others. The "disease" that accompanies raw milk sometimes is due to poor habits or some prior weakness in the consumer, it's not the milk's fault.

Besides, government bureaus like to play dirty. I am intimately connected with the Hartmann E. coli case here in MN and the family got tests done on the same batch of dairy that the government took samples of for testing and found no E. coli.

I don't know what the truth is, but government intervention is never a good thing and that is why it's important to know and trust your farmer. Don't buy from someone who takes shortcuts or has poor quality animals.

I don't see how raw milk varies significantly from raw meat in terms of microbial danger.  It seems that whatever can lead to harm by eating one also applies to the other (both can be food for microbes and pathogens).  It is just a matter of how the food is processed.

I wouldn't say "it's important to... trust your farmer."  Better to find a farmer you can trust.  The first results from adherence to lackadaisical government regulations, where accountability is shifted from farmer to the bureaucrats (who are, ultimately, unaccountable).  In a free market the reputation of the farmer and his product is everything, and consumers can purchase all of the safety and protection they can afford.  Then you can trust the farmer and have confidence in the product you are buying.

This is of course what I meant.

I put that as a response to someone actually valuing what the media says, as I don't whatsoever.
