MCT and LCT metabolism and transit time
« on: March 18, 2011, 04:23:30 am »
Does anyone out there know what the difference in transit time is between the chain lengths of Fatty acids? In numbers(ie. x-amount of MCTs takes, on average, y-amount of time---and for LCTs and SCTs also)? What ratio would be optimal for a bodybuilding afficianado? Should each meal contain a mixture of types? If so what mixture and under what conditions should the different Triglycerides be mixed???

MCTs and SCTs are digested by active diffusion and require no bile so I'm ubder the assumption they digest a decent amount faster.  How fast tho I do not know, it should be noted though that you can't really store MCTs or SCTs which could be a good or bad thing depending on your goals.

Thanks for the info. Still the question remains: what time for what amount under what conditions? LCFAs don't metabolize as well but...sustainable enrgy source(Vince Gironda claims 6 hours "Fats"-not specifying LCFAs). AS to going deep, thats the name of the game.

It doesn't really matter, if your trying to lose weight or fuel up before a workout go for the SCT/MCT.  If your trying to gain or want long burning fuel go for the LCT

Just google short chain triglycerides, medium chain triglycerides etc.  Lots of info.
