highly special science sounds like sorcery to me 
honestly latin and other such specializations in language and communication are really ridiculous and were made to create a division between the "educated and civilized" and the heathen, pagan farmers........basically to give the educated the power of encoded language to control the masses(i.e. law, "science")
its like when you go to a regular practitioner, tell them you have itchy skin, they run a regular physical and come back an hour later to tell you its just "eczema" which means itchy inflamed skin in latin or greek (what you told them in the first place!), which is just a symptom of other problems or imbalances, and they prescribe and ointment to treat the symptom............such genious! you pay them to tell you what your symptom is in latin

I agree with your conclusion and most Doctors will tell you that they are better at diagnosing than doing anything about it. It's always a problem talking to any professional. Some professionals are better at it, but it does take a certain amount of discipline to use regular person speak. Like instead of "inter-digital manipulation between consenting adults", it's "holding hands."
My solution is to dig out the books and figure it out by myself. I have self-treated a number of issues using this method. Takes an little longer but then you know what the problem is and more specifically what you are doing to create the problem, rather than waiting for someone to put a band-aid on it.
The reason for the Latin and Greek is that the labelling system goes back to the days of yore when these languages were the language of science. The problem is that there are so many things to name like for instance in your hand alone there is a whole raft of bones that have to be named.
A few years ago I was studying Ayurveda and when you get past the initial stages you do have to put the time in to study the prefixes and suffixes to figure out the words that Doctors use. Ayurveda uses Sanskrit which is an interesting language because words are typically added to with prefixes and suffixes to make the meaning of the word more and more accurate. In other words you could describe a car in it's totality with one word. It's an excellent scientific language.
If you want to learn the Medical lingo get a book like
Medical Language Made Easy by Jean Tannis Dennerll. It's a workbook that medical people study to unravel the mystery.
However having said that, accurate diagnosis is very important because lots of people have died from inaccurate diagnosis.
Iatrogenic diseases (section Incidence and importance) are responsible for between 225,000 to 284,000 deaths per year in hospital settings alone let alone all the ones that don't get reported or happen outside of hospitals. As such it is like the # 2 or 3 killer in the US. Not all iatrogenic (medical system screwups) issues are misdiagnosis and not all are Doctors fault BTW.
