Thyroid glands and seaweed are iodine dense. Also other rich foods - shellfish, organs, etc.

here is a book that covers iodine in detail.

I have a bottle of Lugol’s iodine solution and it can be used as a supplement  or can be used to decontaminate drinking water. A woman who overcame breast cancer, by natural methods told me about it, She said she knew a guy in the navy who was literally dieing and no doctor could find out why he was so sick, but finally he was diagnosed as being Iodine deficient and once he began to take an Iodine supplement his health rebounded right away.

I think I was personalty Iodine deficient, or at least suffered from an underactive thyroid, and when I first began this diet I was using a couple of drops of Lugals each day in a cup of water. I notice it would make me feel kind of manic with energy and if
I took it to late it would keep me from sleeping. But soon I began to feel so good from the raw paleo diet that I no longer felt the need for supplements of any kind, although I still have a whole bottle I figure if radiation begins to become a problem in my part of the world then I can begin to give each family member a few drops a day as a precaution.

I've read some snippets on the internet that claim iodine lowers thyroid function.

Any information on this/confirmation one way or another?

You wanna go to Fukushima to try to save Japan and perhaps the whole planet ?
Cause and effect are distant in time and space in complex systems, while at the same time there’s a tendency to look for causes near the events sought to be explained. Time delays in feedback in systems result in the condition where the long-run response of a system to an action is often different from its short-run response. — Ronald J. Ziegler

I tried lugol's solution last week. Seemed good, but I got tired on the last day. I'm going to try another cycle this week.

i think free form iodine in Lugol's solution is somewhat toxic versus potassium iodide in tablets ?

I've read that yes. I have some in the cupboard from before I read it, so using that for now.

If I become I long term user, may change. Who knows the truth though? Toxic in what dosage?

If you keep it small, maybe elemental iodine isn't toxic.

Iodine is only needed in minute amounts, I know I was deffecient in Iodine befor I began this diet, and I used a couple of drops of lugals solution every couple of days without any issues.

I began feeling so well from the RAF diet I quit using it for a while. Then I started getting dehydrated and so would mix a little magnesium chloride into my lemon water, sometimes I would add a couple of drops of Iodine solution into it.

I think once I corrected my iodine deficiency my body began to reject excess Iodine, because now if I take any iodine drops I get loose stools and a weird manic feeling .

I think there could be two different things occurring,

1-  Once I have reached an optimal level of iodine and now any excess will be flushed out

2-  perhaps the antiseptic quality of Iodine culls off my gut flora and gives me loose stools.

What ever the issue is I quit using it regularly, but it still may be useful to flush the body of radioactive iodine in an emergency, or even to supplement if reserves become to low.

well the radiation emergency iodine dose is one thousand times higher than normal suggested daily intake.  i don't think it matters what form of iodine you use just for your normal diet but when sh*t hits the fan with some nuclear reactor etc you will want potassium iodide.

There is potassium iodide in Lugol drops.

Lugol drops are 10% potassium Iodide, 5% Iodine and 85% distilled water.

Therapeutic iodine pills and Lugol drops contain inorganic iodine. The dangerous forms of iodine are organic, or radioactive.

My wife and I have been taking iodine for six  months now, she takes 6 drops daily and I take 2; this is  because we both took an iodine status test and found that she was more deficient than me. Neither of us have noticed any difference but we weren't feeling bad before we started.

There is a widespread view that to take iodine in the quantities that I take it in is far too much and can be dangerous for some people with autoimmune forms of thyroid disease. That is an open question but my wife and I have not experienced an negative effects.
