North Am. Natives would not have sung Kumbaya. That is a particularly Brit fantasy about Africans. 

I know some natives and their lifestyle is vastly superior to ours despite their current situation. They really do seek out and listen to their elders. They eat a vastly superior diet etc. The ones I know are very peaceful and very thoughtful prior to speaking. One of our Tai Chi senior instructors is native and she is awesome. The others I have met are similar.

You are probably accurate in the business about fighting, but it is a bit difficult to truly know as the whites who reported this sort of thing were attempting to look somehow superior, in the same fashion as the Brits who were trying to make the Asian Indians look like they would be at each other's throats if they were left to themselves, without the thieving Brits to be the peacemakers. LOL

I was thinking of more modern historical accounts of endless wars in the Americas pre-European-contact. Archaeologists have shown plenty of evidence of pre-Contact mass-graves with signs of war on the bodies. Those archaeologists who only focus on  ancient tribal histories tend to have a rosier picture in their minds, but, imo, such accounts would, of necessity, contain some pro-Native American bias, especially oral histories.

I do not doubt that there were exceptions to the rule, just like in Europe and elsewhere. But it is a bit absurd to portray all or most tribes as having been  mostly peaceful. The Noble Savage theory is very emotionally-compelling, even to me sometimes,  but it has no real evidence to support it. Plus, I just do not see how humans could have attained such a large brain without having been  constantly subject to natural selection in a vast way for a considerable length of time.

As regards the Brits in India, I do note that as soon as the Brits left , the Hindus and Muslims swiftly broke up the Indian subcontinent, despite Gandhi's wishes to the contrary. Then there were certain groups like  tribes in Afghanistan  which were constantly fighting among each other. The only time Afghanistan was ever at peace  was when the Mongols invaded- they had no choice as the Mongols, unlike other conquerors, were particularly brutal and more or less beheaded anyone who talked back to their conquerors without permission.

I am not in favour of Empire, though(with the possible exception of the Russian Empire conquering vast swathes of basically empty Siberia). The whole notion of taking up the white man's burden is absurd, patronising and self-harming, anyway.

I hear ya Tyler. The notion of any group of PPL being totally peaceful is a pipe dream. I am just reading a book that has been around for quite awhile. It was recommended by an American (very literate) relative from Boston who herself has quite the lineage in American history.

The book is called "The People's History Of The United States" by Howard Zinn. http://www.historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html  It is quite the eye opener so far. It is a more honest version of what really went on way back when.

I went to a summer camp as a child and the counselors would leave all the lost and found stuff in a box on the back porch for the "tree indians". They had us all convinced that there was a hidden tribe of peaceful indians who lived in the trees. Many years later I found out that the tree indians were merely the hippies who started the camp with money from growing pot.

Still to this day I rather like the idea that tree indians were real....and perhaps they were in some way during some time in history....Its easy for one to point out anecdotal cases of the brutality of certain native American tribes that for thousands of years have lived countless lifetimes in the wild blue yonder, much of which has been completely lost to history...but this in no way proves that groups of peace loving hippy indians did not exist.

So in my mind it is not too far of a stretch of the imagination to believe that there may have indeed been at on time "Tree Indians" whom lived in such peace and harmony with the land that they left no trace of their existence for us to know them by.

Perhaps their world was nearly as diverse in archetypes as our own, where there was a multiplicity of many different kinds of people. Sure there were assholes, bastards, rascals etc... but there must of also been the nobles, sages, and peace lovers as well.

My point was simply that the Liberal Retard notion that all Native Americans were entirely peaceful and nonviolent prior to the advent of "the white man" was utter nonsense, and just another example of the absurd Noble Savage theory. I do concede that some tribes were more peaceful than others, but constant warfare between NA tribes is evident given plentiful archaeological evidence for it.

The Hopis wiped out the Catholic Hopis of Awatovi, hardly a sign of a peaceful people!

I have no problem with people describing NA tribes as being just as warlike or as peaceful as all other humans(which basically means indulging in regular wars every so often with peacetimes inbetween, given human Nature). By and large, those very rare hunter-gatherer tribes which have indeed been wholly peaceful for many millenia have invariably ended up becoming  extinct   as a result of  eventually coming across a more warlike tribe; or the tribes lived in such harsh, isolated regions that no one ever bothered to attack them over aeons.
