1 Fruit a day.
« on: May 06, 2011, 03:07:40 am »
Hello all,

I was interested if anyone out there just eats 1 fruit a day for carbs?

What do people consider LC compared to VLC?

For those that are VLC, how many carbs do you eat a day?  Do you eat carbs every day?  How many carbs in a week?  and What is your source of carbs?

Peoples' definition of LC or VLC is weird and widely different. Some appear to think of LC diets as consisting of as much as 40 percent carbs, while others, like me, view VLC as being less than 2 percent carbs and LC as being less than 25 percent carbs.

When I did RVLC, I would eat a little raw fruit/raw veg perhaps only once or twice a week. I found that waas a mistake as, once I ate too few carbs, my body no longer had the right bacteria etc. to digest the raw carbs, so that I got minor digestive issues with raw plant foods. Once I upped my raw carb intake, everything was fine again.

I consider Zero Carb to be animal foods only (save tea and coconut oil), so the carb count does not matter. Some days I have literally zero, and sometimes up to 8 carbs with carby egg yolks and organ meat (liver, tongue).

I consider VLC around 20-30 carbs, coming only from vegetable/fruit sources outside of animal foods. Absolutely no grains/legumes, etc.

Regular low carb could be from 50-150 grams a day.

Thank you both for the replies.

Tyler, how many grams of carbs do you eat a day currently?

250 g of blueberries, say, or 4 apples or 2 avocadoes or 3 bananas etc.. Sometimes maybe 2 of those items together on one particular day.  That sort of thing.

I was interested if anyone out there just eats 1 fruit a day for carbs?

I do and I drink of lemon juice usually. I probably eat about 20-30g of carbs daily. Initially I felt awful since my body probably has never been in ketosis before as I have been eating a high carbohydrate diet throughout my life.

Fruits I eat: kiwi, lemon, papaya, cantaloupe, berries ... thats about it XD

Other carb source: Blue/Green algae

All I want is the truth... Just gimme some truth.

I was on a very low-carb diet before for several years, but really was not feeling well on it. Often felt tired, depressed and dizzy. Surprisingly, I also noticed weight gain and experienced "sugar drops". My carb intake was around 20 grams a day. Now I eat a bit more carbs, about 60 grams a day (mostly from raw honey, lemons, avocados, papayas, and berries) and feel way better. Especially, my energy level has improved greatly.

I neither weigh what I eat nor even count how many fruits - except when it's a jackfruit because in such a case the answer is: no more than one.

I'd love to eat the way you do, just go by whet feels good. Unfortunatly I cannot yet as my instincts are still way to fucked up by years of sad eating. So I stick to one fruit a day for now. I hope that after a few years RPD my instincts come back online. Were you able to do this right away? If not how long did it take to get them back?

Our alimentary instinct is always "on" and working, but it is unable to work properly with neolithic, modern, cooked, processed food... So it suffice to be confronted to raw, unprocessed, paleolithic stuff only for this instinct to work all right from the first minute.

But as the needs of an individual may be great after several years of deficiencies induced by processed cooked food diet, the amount of raw unheated, unprocessed paleo food that can be eaten in the beginning can be astonishing, per example 30 eggs yolks or 3 kg of fruit in a meal. These quantities decrease with time as the needs gradually lessen.

Of all paleo food fruits are the only thing I often crave. But they are hardly paleo ever tried a true crap-apple (from which all our modern apples com) its so extremly sour/bitter, very hard to eat. I wonder if my cravings are true cravings or just my body and possible candida wanting the sugar.

Most wild (or almost wild) tropical fruits are not sour / bitter. Mankind spread outside of the tropics quite recently, mostly after mastering the fire.

Try rambutans, sapotillas, soursop, cempedak, Indonesian or Sri Lankan durians. Some temperate areas fruits are however acceptable, we have just to be ware that the instinctive stop is very week with most of them. But it's ok with berries, figs and ancient varieties of persimmons.

Those fruits are nice indeed. But I try to limit my carbs because of possible candida, especially sugar. Or do you thinks fruits do not feed candida? I do eat berries when in season. Love red and bleu berries.

If i eat things like grapes figs and berries I never eat enough of them to hit an instinctive stop. Once a week on weight training days I eat half a kilo of grapes prior to working out. I really get into the spririt when eating them if you know what I mean. I think that if I had a few kilos I would easily eat a few k without hitting a stop. Not sure if that my body craving something good in the grapes or just me craving the sugar.

I don't see why fruits would feed candida. Certainly refined pure white industrial sugar does, but it cannot be compared to sugar in fruits, which is embedded in and associated with an innumerable number of other nutrients.Completely different.

Do you eat grapes in this season? They must come from South Africa then and are very probably irradiated. Normally grapes do induce an instinctive stop: it's when you can't swallow their skin anymore.
