washing of the hands
« on: December 15, 2011, 09:56:26 am »
What do people think about the constant washing of the hands? Is it good or just another useless byproduct of bacteria neurosis?

I think it is OK not to wash your hands even after you poop.   UNLESS you intend to touch other people's hands and things that others have touched.

Washing is very useful.  Antibacterial soap and sanitizers are in fact useless.

I usually only wash my hands after I handle something messy, like raw meat. If I'm in the bathroom at work, I wash my hands if someone else is in there as well.  I don't want to pick up a reputation there as a non-hand-washer.  Otherwise, I rarely bother.  I'm not performing surgery, so I don't need sterile hands.

I consider washing hands (with soap) essential after going to the toilet. I will also wash hands if they become excessively dirty from soil and the like.

Essential for what?
"In the modern, prevailing view of the cosmos, we sit here as tiny, unimportant specks of protoplasm, flukes of nature, and stare out into an almost limitless void. Vast, nameless tracts of emptiness dominate the scene. Talk about feeling small.
But we do not look out at the universe; it is, instead, within us, as a rich 3-D visual experience whose location is the mind" - R. Lanza, Beyond Biocentrism.

Because of transmission of disease, because of people otherwise looking at you with disgust after you shake their hands with traces/smells of shit on your hand etc.    l) l)

Hmm, SAD-eaters have called me an extremist just for doing this diet, but it seems I am quite mundane by comparison to some here who advocate not washing hands or going in for coprophagia/urine-therapy etc.

I wash my hands too much, even if it's just with water.  They get drier than I like.  It was great when my work was with food.  People observing me let me know they appreciated how clean I kept my hand between touching one thing and the next.

I think it's a neurosis, and I think I got it when I became a mother.  The staff told me wash my hand every time before I touch my baby.  I was the sole caretaker, so I washed frequently.  I maybe should not have listened to them.  It's not like I was getting my hands full of anything bad ever at that time.  Also, as relatives visited they certainly did not abide anyway.

Anyone have ideas how to not dry out ones hands?  Maybe just my replying here will get me to stop washing.  I did wash my hands before eating as a child.  I know people who don't, and I don't think it adversely affects their healths.

Haha I used to take a complete shower in cold water every time I used the toilet, and it's not like I was dirty, just a practice I was told of foreign culture.

I think washing too much may make your skin burn if using harsh soap, and may cause acne.

Really Ty you use soap? I feel like my right to not have poison (soap, whether antibacterial or otherwise) on my skin supercedes any other perceived "duties" to people who will gladly take pharmaceutical poisons, mutilate their children(circumcision), and otherwise poison, themselves, others and our environments without a second thought.

The only time I use soap is to wash dishes for my squeamish friends and family, and in that case I won't do it unless I have latex or dish gloves. Otherwise, my right to health and freedom from toxins superceeds everything else.

And this is why, inspite of doing manual labor, I have soft, supple skin on my hands, while everyone else is slathering on loads of moisturizers.

Furthermore, if I take showers in municipally chlorinated water, I will get dry skin, whereas our farm well water does nothing of the sort. Typically I will go without a shower and simply clean underarms and genitals  rather than bathe in chlorinated/fluoridated water. For those of you who still have skin problems out there inspite of being mostly raw, take note!

Youre young, that's why your hands are soft. My husband is 29. His hands are soft. He washes constantly with hospital soap and never wears gloves for stacking fire wood. He eats crap and has soft moist hands. Genetics and youth have to play a part here. I don't think washing hands is such a big deal. It is nice to avoid it, but health is a progression -----Every bodies there own. If you feel like washing then it's right for you at that time. Essentially I agree with the root of what I'm hearing from Citrus High ------pay attention to what is right for you.  Don't step on anybody's right to choose and defend your own. I feel like I should waive a flag.  -X

know thyself and all of the mysteries of the gods and the universe will be revealed.
Oracle at Delphi

Then began I to thrive, and wisdom to get,
I grew and well I was;
Each word led me on to another word,
Each deed to another deed.
Odin, who chose to be weak and hang form the tree of the world (the universe), to capture the Runes (wisdom), so he (omnipotent) grew...
Each true word and deed leads to my manifestation of the true me.
