Flatulence
« on: March 26, 2012, 11:10:17 am »
What causes more flatulence: beef or eggs? I have been having trouble with both and wonder if I'm consuming simply too much?(1 dozen eggs and 1 lb. of ground beef per day)? ANyone had similar experiences?

I observe my body resorts to flatulence with things it cannot digest properly.

Such as raw milk.

I observed if I want to digest raw milk with minimal flatulence, I drink lactobacilli probiotics and it will work.

Thanks. right now I have sub-par sources and must pick and choose amongst eggs...beef...and eggs/beef. I am thinking mainly raw eggs would be best as I found the grain-fed ground beef I had consumed made me feel toxic and the eggs less so. Would you buy into the hype re: avidin in egg whites=biotin deficiency notion? Alot of mixed messages bandied about.

I eat whites when I feel like it.

Isthmus: do you cook them??? I am thinking I would like to have exclusively egg whites raw but....fear the avidin= biotin deficiency/digestive enzyme reduction (putative) correlation. ANy thoughts.

No, I don't cook them. If I eat raw egg whites (whole eggs) they give me loads of flatulence. Raw separated yolks seem to be okay.

I have been drinking cups of raw eggwhites only, without yolks, many times and nothing negative happened.
But I have to say I have a very healthy digestion I guess. ;)

Cooked eggs are not good for me, also not soft-boiled. They always give me flatulence. Raw, never.
That is why I eat eggs only raw.

thanks guys. I have heard that cooked.whites create digestive problems through changes in the protein molecule....but raw have the avidin and less protein. what to.do what to do....

My approach is similar. I usually eat whole, fertile, pastured chicken eggs and a couple duck eggs each week, but sometimes I discard the chicken egg whites when I make steak tartare or other mixes with yolks. I've never noticed any problems from egg whites, and I've tried going without them for stretches to see if there are any improvements and didn't notice any. There's no guarantee that the whites aren't doing some unseen harm, but I'm not particularly worried. Like Lex, if I ever notice any ill effects, I'll change.
