Celebrity Rawists
« on: October 31, 2008, 08:34:08 pm »
There was a topic on celebrities doing RAF diets. It occurred to me to do a thread on real-life and fictional people eating raw animal foods.

In real-life:- Mel Gibson and Uma Thurman.

In Fiction:- Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard TV series. He's shown to eat raw liver, which is an old US dish. The idea in the show is to emphasise his villainy by showing him as a raw-meat-eater.

Demi Moore and Natalie Portman

They're actually doing only raw vegan diets - the above article was a little misleading. Funnily enough, I've heard that Natalie Portman has given up veganism quite some time ago, as has Demi Moore , quite recently.

Helena Bonham Carter loves steak tartare and raw eggs.

I read this a few years ago and she mentioned she was going to stop eating raw meat as she was pregnant with her first kid. A bit of a shame I wonder if she caved?

Kelly Rowan's Raw Food Diet  4/1/05

The OC star Kelly Rowan shuns all of the catering on the set of her hit TV show - because she only eats raw food. The 37-year-old actress, who plays Kirsten Cohen in the drama, has steered clear of cooked and processed foods for a large number of years, and it's meant preparing her own meals whenever she goes to work.

She says, "I don't eat any refined carbohydrates. I eat sprouted rice, I eat raw meat... nothing processed. "I've been doing it for 12 years and I've never been sick. I eat raw dairy; anything the body can assimilate. It's great, 'cause you don't feel like you're on a diet. I get so angry that women always feel that they're on some kind of diet because as soon as that happens you feel like you're in deprivation mode. "I had hyperglycemia when I was in my late 20s. I was really tired and I couldn't figure out why. I kept going to doctors and they kept saying to me, 'You're fine,' and I said, 'Well I'm not fine. I don't feel great,' and that sort of prompted (the diet)."

But Rowan does deviate from her strict eating plan for just one treat. She adds, "If I really want a piece of chocolate, which is my weakness, I will have a piece of chocolate."

It's always interesting to find out about new RVAF-diet celebrities. Thanks.

Found this old thread when looking up both hunter-gatherer and modern (raw) paleo eaters.

Sooo...as far as current celebrities who eat raw, who eat paleo, and who eat raw paleo - who eats what?

Mel Gibson reported that he eats a "Tiger Diet" consisting mainly of raw meats and raw olive oil.Uma Thurman is just mentioned as eating a raw diet consisting of a lot of raw meats, no idea if it is the Primal Diet or more like a rawpalaeodiet.

Demi Moore and Natalie Portman seem to have been raw vegans but quit ages ago.

Oh, I doubt these celebrities are too strict, and indulge in alcohol and drugs. But they are(were?) eating these other foods.

There is a pretty good incentive to go rawpalaeo if one is a Hollywood actor/actress or a model. A RVAF diet is usually less likely to lead to weight-gain so is highly suitable , especially if devoid of raw dairy, and people do look younger as a result, according to reports.

* Oh, and I think I mentioned elsewhere that Val Kilmer was on the Primal Diet, according to a source.

I mentioned in another thread about Angelina Jolie (for "Tombraider") and Megan Fox (one of the "Transformer" movies) using the diet to get in shape, and there is the other thread mentioning Carol Alt (who I always thought was vegan). I know Uma Thurman had mentioned using raw, but that (& Mel) isn't current. One look at Val Kilmer and I'd guess he isn't currently on a paleo diet either (hahaha!).

So....any famous folk currently using a raw diet? A paleo-esque diet? A raw paleo diet?

Carol Alt has been eating raw meats for some time...at least 5 if not 10 years. She saw a semi-non-tradtional MD that recommended it for cancer diagnosis years ago. Her diet emphasizes alot of gourmet snacks and pulls from liberal spectrum of the veg foods, but that seems to be a pretty reasonable approach for herself and probably attracts alot of others to trying new things. I think in her book she mentions her long term BF eating alot of raw red meat, or not doing well without raw red meat. I think often by raw she means seared tho..but I'm sure she makes tartar and such.

The mum in 'OC' eats raw meat. She's a veteran and looks great.

I believe the Val Kilmer rumour. He looks like he is eating lots of raw dairy to get fat rxed by AV

Hm... I'm not sure what Alt eats exactly at this time, but I've looked at both of her books extensively and while she does promote raw dairy (milk, cheese, homemade kefir), raw eggs, and raw fish - fish tartare and ceviche recipes were def included - I'm pretty sure there was no raw red meat...

I think her books are excellent though - great for transitioning. Although they include raw dairy and raw fish, her books are also very reminiscent of raw gourmet veganism (soaking, sprouting, nut milks, et al.) - some complicated hoops on fire to jump through to make a fancy meal/dessert, but also some simple recipes (salads, smoothies) that sounded very yummy. I don't remember if she recommended downing raw eggs straight up, but I do remember a raw egg in a raw Caesar dressing recipe.

I would recommend her books for people wanting to transition into healthier raw eating because she tells her story and she's so enthusiastic and encouraging, such a believer in how she eats, it is inspiring. :)  She is a committed RVAFer and wants so much to share what she has discovered. Maybe she eats raw red meat now, but strictly from her books I didn't get that impression.

How did you guess, GS. Yes, I am a celebrity. ;)

Carol Alt does eat steak tartar:

"ALT: Sered. Sered, tartar, carpachio. I'll sere it.

O'REILLY: All right, but you're not going to...

ALT: We're talking 70 percent raw. ....

ALT: Well, at Sushi Scampi, I'll have cerviche and tartars and traditos (ph)."

Another celebrity adherent, Donna Karan, used the diet to pick herself up after the loss of her husband. She regained her emotional strength with the help of the raw food diet, and lost 20 lbs in the process.

Ummmm... Like David M. McLean, I'm a professional performer/entertainer and while I have some fans/admirers (maybe three), I'm not a celebrity... I'm SAG eligible and I've been a featured extra in a few Disney episodes and an adult-natured cable program that actually starred real pornographic actors/actresses (the program was not pornographic though - the acts were "simulated" and no, I was not on set for these scenes :D ). Two of the leads (female) thought I was hot - that's the extent of my celebrity. My friend wanted me for a not-yet-produced reality show, but I don't know if I'd do that... If I did though, you know I would be eating the RAF! ;)

I also believe that there are lots of celebrities and non-celebrities - some on the forum, some not needing the forum - eating RPD, but keeping it private, not out of embarrassment or anything, but just because they don't need to tell the whole world how they eat - they're not RAF leaders, they're eaters. :)

MAAATT DAAMON!

What does that really mean? I've only heard about F.A.G, the Film Actors Guild, led by Alec Baldwin.

I would love it if A-list celebrities were members of this forum! If only someone really famous  like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Vladimir Putin or the Emperor of Japan or whoever were members, we would reach 1,000,000 members in a very short time!
