I lost weight quickly and without even trying. I'm not working out at all right now and am still losing weight. I wasn't very overweight though, only like 20 lbs. Natural foods have less calories. As long as you don't consume too much fat, I can't understand why you wouldn't drop weight.

Actually, most rawists report losing weight on a raw diet.

The most important thing is to concentrate on doing what you need to heal up that diabetes. My opinion is that you have come to the right place for that.

I haven't lost much weight either. I might loose a little then gain it back with a little binge. I had a blood test done that should my GAD antigen was very high. It is one of the 2 antigens responsible for causing autoimmune diabetes. The other is islet cell antigen. It is the same for adults as children, you can have either antigen or both. It can creep up or hit suddenly. In adults it is now called type 1.5 or adult onset autoimmune diabetes. They only recently began offering this test. I have only just begun to research this, but essentially my body is attacking the enzyme that converts glutamine into anything else. I learned that diabetes is only one manifestation of the depletion of the glutamic acid dehydrogenase enzyme. It also interferes with dopamine production and through a process I still don't understand it makes me unable to process ketones.
What's the point? Well you could have it to. Unless you've had the blood work you won't know. If you have the GAD antigen you won't be successful low carb for long.
I don't know what will work for you or me. I am eating raw carbs now. All I want I eat instinctive b/c i feel like I don't over eat them that that way. I gained weight (15lbs) when I started eating carbs. Some of it was water weight, from another problem. I've lost 10lbs but that still has me at a net gain.
I would love to be thin, I know that I'm healthier and happier eating raw foods, but not thinner yet. I think it is going to be a combination of diet and lifestyle. In addition to raw food, try sleeping 8+ hrs/ night. Stop eating by 6pm. Light to moderate exercises, cold adaptation. Avoid bright light after dark.

This forum isn't specific about how much carbs or protein or fats one "should" be eating to be raw paleo - thank goodness.

How's the adding of carbs doing Adora with how you are feeling generally these days? A new kind of diabetes Type 1.5. Wow.

Even though I'm not diabetic I've been experimenting with how different amounts and kinds of carbs make me feel, but for a diabetic weight gain and loss is a whole different animal. So glad Adora chimed in. If I were a diabetic Adora would be the #1 person I'd want to be talking to here.

Well BR I don't know what can be done. You don't know if you have it. I know I'm not going to try low carb again. I felt bad for the first 2 weeks or so when I started carbs again, but I have normalized out. My sugar spikes more with bananas than with raw beef, but my body has accommodated. At your next visit you could ask to have a islet cell antibody test and GAD (glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody test done. Then you will know if your dealing with an autoimmune issue. If not then I would slowly increase animal foods, and low carb vegetables. If you want something sweet eat fruit to satisfy cravings, but make sure you are getting extra rest and light to moderate exercise. Diabetes is a metabolic nightmare. You need to rest to heal. I really liked the principals of cold thermogenesis and I will get back into that soon myself.
Also, with the fruit, some people say they have better BS with mixing fats and fruits, but that wasn't the case for me. I think it is because I tended to over eat combos. My stomach is more comfortable eating 2-3 apples, or a cantaloupe, than mixing. Coconuts and eggs and pineapple, for example, I just eat till I'm stuffed, but when I eat one fruit 'till I feel an instinctive stop, I don't get stuffed, just satisfied and I feel physically better. I want you to try both and see what works for you. I suggest you to stay attuned to your body and commit to always improving and fine tune your lifestyle - that's my plan. With instinctive I often eat hardly anything, and think I must still be hungry b/c my stomach isn't full, but I'm not hungry, just not full. I'm still not used to this. I sometimes eat something cooked just to fill up b/c my mind is uncomfortable, but I'm changing a little at a time. You will to, maybe you'll come around quicker than me.
What are you doing now? I think gaining weight might not be so bad if it is just a little. Maybe it is just a transition your body is going through. How over weight are you?
Dorothy, thanks for your endorsement :)

Aside from paleo diet, replacing my sugar with natural sweetener (Natvia) has been effective in my quest to weight loss. It tastes and feels like real sugar that I can’t even tell the difference.
