What we in the nl call gouda or goudse kaas. I've seen this name used abroad as well to describe Dutch cheeses. So maybe you now it. It is the most basic cheese. Just separate the solids from the milk using rennet I or kefir (they made me some butter and cream cheese using kefir grains I supplied sooooo good) press the solids and let it age 6 to 8 Weeks for young cheese. Over a year for old cheese.

Yes Dorothy I feel lucky to have found this farm. They are one of the very few organic farm in nl that pasture feeds there animals. The milk butter cheese I get right now are from cows grazing the fast growing young grasses from spring. There its no higher quality.

Growing kefir in cream and making butter out of it - wow - never would have come up with doing that. Now that's a great idea for recycling kefir grains.
Gouda is gooda! One of the best cheeses out there.

Only a few farms in the entire country. I guess you had better be REALLY nice to that farmer!

Oh im nice to them. I'm the reason they started experimenting with raw. Last week their cat was dying and they saved it using raw meat and raw liver. Cat went from dying to fully healthy in a day. They've seen the power of raw food now.

You saved their cat! You're in like Flynn now.

I really have to start feeding my two pet feral kitties totally raw. It's just a lot to keep up with feeding the dogs and the chickens their ideal diets. Making the transition for the cats will take some real effort - but I really want to. I love those guys! Who wouldn't love a wild animal that decides you're cool enough to want you to pet it?

Right now  he's complaining he wants more food. I guess living out hunting mating and fighting (he's shredded) took its toll. Still rather that than chop his balls off.

Oh - but you have to castrate him! There are so many unwanted kittens being killed in shelters! He would also fight less and be safer in the world if he were fixed.

That statement makes me just furious!   I think it's  far better to vasectomise/tie their tubes  than to have them neutered. Frankly, I don't think anybody should be allowed to own pets unless they can look after their pets' welfare properly. So,  pets should be given lots of exercise, and allowed to remain intact etc. I disagree that humans' concerns should outweigh those of an animal.

What do you mean the human concerns? It's the concern of all those kittens and cats living horribly and dying horribly because people don't fix their pets! Then you have someone owing a male cat that's not fixed travelling distances and fighting who is beat to shit and will die an early life instead of living at home being fed good raw foods!

There is a feral cat explosion here where thousands upon thousands are killed. That's how come there are feral cats in my yard and that's because someone else let their cat run around not fixed. If I didn't fix the cats that were here there would be 100's for me to feed in no time. Without fixing them there is not enough food, the wild animals like birds and lizards would be decimated and the cats themselves suffer.

When I had six feral cats living here there was not one bird ever to be seen. Thank goodness I was able to find some of them homes and fix the others. My two feral boys now stay close and are safe and not killing off the wildlife and putting themselves in danger.

It's terribly irresponsible to own a cat and let it run around and not fix it!

Let me put it this way:- if you were an utterly powerless slave born into a society of slavery,  and the rulers didn't like to have so many slaves running around, would you prefer to be neutered or would you rather be kept rigidly within a house so that you could not breed with males outside or would you rather have your tubes tied? The last option, I suspect if you had no other options available given to you.

If people were forbidden from owning pets  unless they kept careful control of them, everything would be fine. Take dogs, for example:- if one keeps a dog in a large garden with sufficient fencing, it can't get out to breed with other dogs, and it can hardly do so when you take it for walkies. And vasectomising/tube-tying works fine on humans so there should be no problem with doing it to pets.

Of course, there are other issues:- too many people own pets from too few species. If only more people would feed/raise urban foxes, bats, magpies  and the like rather than cats and dogs,  the environment would benefit more.

Totally agree that how we "own" pets is a mess for everyone generally. With how it is at present though - whether it's tube-tying or however it's done - the reproduction of feral cats needs to stop for the sake of the cats and the rest of the outside animal populations.

I am planning the building of a bat box! I can't wait to have some "pet" bats.

My dogs were throw aways. How many people treat pets is despicable. When it comes to the dogs and the cats and the chickens - I'm the one that is the slave.
