Just want to share my happiness
« on: May 26, 2012, 03:36:48 am »
Gahh!! I'm really happy right now.

My girlfriend, for the past week, has given up grains and sugars and has been eating all organic. Not quite all-the-way raw paleo, and I don't ever expect her to be, but she has been eating a little raw liver (which is an incredible feat all by itself, knowing her). Her mood and energy levels seem more stable than usual, and her belly has flattened out and her skin looks great, just in this short amount of time. She said she's a believer now and plans to keep it up. I've been waiting a long time for this and just had to share my exuberance!  ;D

Good for you. I wish mine would do the same.

How did you get her to do it?

Well, for a while I admit I probably was a bit too pushy about wanting her to change her diet and quite honestly it just pushed her further away from it. Lately I've been really backing off and just letting her do her thing, and she's been observing just how sick and unhealthy everyone around her is, and how I don't get sick even when everyone around us (including her) is. I think she just eventually got fed up with feeling like garbage and thankfully I've been there as a good example. She's a smart one so I guess she made the logical leap. I hope yours does the same, for both of your sakes, because I know just how it feels to have a big disparity in lifestyles within a relationship

Mine is totally healthy and never feels good most of the time so its kind of harder to convince her that something bad is bound to happen from eating crap eventually.

I started eating raw meat to help the hubbie see that eating it won't hurt him. That's how I got here. He's catching on. He's always been into health food - but we all know that's different than raw. Eating like me wasn't about to work for him. He needed meat but cooked regular old meat was all we knew about -- I hated to watch -- but it was better than the soy he used to eat. When I learned that you could get grass-fed and you could eat it raw - then I knew hubbie might be able to get on the raw gravy train with me. ;)  I'm proud of him too. Isn't it a blessing boxcar? I'm real happy for you.

trollofthedungeon -

well I guess in this case, I'd just be thankful that she is in good health for the time being, and if she ever falls ill (god forbid) hopefully she will give this a try

dorothy -

so has he tried giving raw meat a try? couldn't tell exactly from your post. and thanks!

Oh yeah - it took a while. I hadn't eaten red meat in 20 years and I sat down day after day eating raw ground beef with an egg yolk in front of him as he stared at me waiting for me to get really sick with his eyes popping out of his head saying that if a couple of years ago anyone told him I would eat red meat he would have laughed but RAW meat! I told him over and over that I was doing it to convince him that eating his meat that he likes raw is good and won't hurt him. He now cooks the outside just a little for aesthetic reasons and has the inside completely raw and cold. He has sat down to totally raw only once and it was so funny - it was like a psychological hurdle. Here he was eating the whole inside of his burgers totally raw and yet that little last tiny bit was so big. It's only recently that I've gotten him to switch over from cooking eggs to eating them raw. A few weeks ago he agreed to eat the raw yolks on some pieces of toast. Now I put them in the raw soup I make for us instead. The thing is that I don't lecture him. I just tell him how much I love him and we're at the point in our lives where it's now or never to grab health. Too many health issues are popping up. He knows that me seeing him sick at all makes me terrified. For 20 years he said, "I'll see what happens to you." Well, times up - that one aint flyin' no more.

One thing you might want to consider is that women often don't need as much meat as men do. For me, it's all about being raw and not that I need to eat meat. I now eat a tiny bit once a month maybe of red meat and that's the max that feels right. I feel fine with raw fruits and veggies and even better with fish and eggs added. I couldn't get him to eat like me when I wasn't eating meat because he needed that. If you try to convince someone to eat a lot of meat when they aren't attracted to it that could backfire.

My thing is that everything is a possibility if it can be eaten raw, sprouted grains, soaked nuts/seeds, fruit, veggies, eggs, fish, meat, organs and even more exotic things. Whatever she is willing to eat raw - it's better and eventually she will find her own balance. No two people will be attracted to the exact same raw diet. I like to make sprouted seeds and grains into crackers. Always have. That's not paleo. I don't care. It works for me.

I guess what I'm suggesting is to support her in eating whatever she wants to raw in whatever way she can get herself to eat it raw.

I see, very cool Dorothy.

Do you have a recipe for that raw soup you mentioned? I'd love to try that with her

It changes all the time. I'm not good at recipes. The key seems to be enough basil and oregano though. I have a couple dozen things I often use in it.

I've just noticed it. It's a bit of a stereotype the woman ordering a salad and the man a steak - but in hunter gathering societies I could imagine the women staying and picking all those berries ate some more of them and the men on the way back from the hunt were hungry and started in on the meat.... but it's really just observation over the years watching people. I used to eat out most of my meals in Manhattan and I would always look around to see what everyone was eating. I'm still always watching what people eat. Not that every woman or every man is like that of course. As a woman if I expected my man to eat the way I want to it would end up failing or making him sick and vice versa, so when dealing with a spouse differences in needs/desires have to be taken into consideration. The only reason my husband is eating so much raw now is because I accepted his intense protein needs. I'm delighted to now know that he can eat that meat raw and grass-fed instead.

Right on Boxcar, thanks for sharing!

My mama and my ex gf started eating and craving raw liver, only a few bites here and there, but I never thought that would happen with my mom. They both can sense the intense nutrition and energy in the raw liver.

They're both big in to veggies as well so like dorothy said, I try to get them to eat them raw instead of cooking everything. They're both alcoholics too though, so I don't worry too much about them, and like others have said, when you back off, after you've made it known that you'd like to see them change their habits for healthier ones, because you care, that's when they really got going on it. And again, it was because they could see that I was resilient and healthy even when they and everyone (and I almost mean everyone!!) else around me were getting sick, even  with transmissible 'sickness' like colds and flu's. It's kind of a mindfuck though, and a lot of propaganda to get around to even consider raw meat as a viable option. But if you eat it in front of your loved ones every single day, they eventually can't help but at least acknowledge that what they've been told might be questionable.

@boxcarguy07

Big BIG CONGRATS!!!  ;D I can't imagine how happy you must feel. So happy for you!

I think a lot of us here have a dream of meeting a raw paleo partner haha!

So so so true. After nearly 7 months on raw paleo, eating raw meat / fat / organ meats in front of my family daily and having cured 95% of my severe full body eczema rashes, one family member has already started to eat wild-caught salmon and raw grass-fed beef with me sometimes.

I completely agree on backing off on trying to convince family living with you. That seemed to have done the trick with mine. At first, I did the mistake on raving on and on about how Western Medicine is COMPLETELY bulls*** and meat, saturated fat = heart disease, cancer is a complete lie; bacteria / parasite scares are bunk etc.

I now understand how hard it is for people to change their deep-rooted beliefs about health / nutrition. I am applauding the pharmaceutical companies and Western Medicine for their outrageously genius marketing and false education tactics.

I've learned to only worry about my own health and strive to change myself only, no matter how hard it is to picture your loved ones poisoning themselves with nail polish, toxic shampoo, hair gel, toothpaste...

I also think about how fortunate I am that none of my family members smoke or use alcohol. At least that's a lot worse than constantly eating SAD! haha
Wishing everyone the best in health and happiness! much love to all!

smoking may not be worse than eating cooked foods.
