Same problem with cellphones in the pocket. People don't realize that both heat and the radio waves cook the very delicate tissues that are part of the sexual apparatus. Our testicles are even adversely affected by a bath that is too hot. Probably heated vehicle seats do damage also.

There have been women get cancer on their breasts where they kept their cellphones. Various books on the subject. Naturally cellphone makers downplay this somewhat like the tobacco companies downplay the danger of their livelihood.

As a pilot, one of the first thing you are taught is to turn radar units to standby when on the ground as they will cook the delicate tissues of ground handlers. Nowadays of course as soon as you touchdown switches in the landing gear automatically turn off the transmitters.
Cheers

Since so much in flying is now automated,  have you ever heard of pilots being betrayed by electronics? Such as, I don't know, having the autopilot wrongly plotting a course into mmountains or having constant alerts about fires or whatever which do not actually exist etc.?

Autopilots/GPS devices get programmed incorrectly periodically. Sometimes ATC picks it up or the pilots notice it before it gets too noticeable. Regarding flying into mountains, newer aircraft have electronics that combine navigation with topographical info, so the device knows where it is and what's ahead. It's quite amazing the things that are available.

Infrared devices that can see through clouds, so you see the airport etc,
devices that allow the pilot to see where they will be exactly, say the touchdown point, given the speed/power setting etc
Devices that can tell when turbulence will be encountered ahead.

Still naturally there is room for error like anything we humans touch.

Fire false alarms used to be a PITA with one a/c I flew. Generally you knew the conditions that brought them on. You could deal with the false alarm and eventually the system would be changed, but once I had one that seemed to defy everything we could figure out and since we were close to landing we shut down just in case. It was false.

Fires are very rare nowadays. Mechanical failures are also because there is so much checking and recording of maintenance/parts etc and education is a bigger part of maintenance life. Any system can be gamed though.
Cheers
