Thoughts on fruitarian diet/ low fat raw vegan?
« on: November 28, 2012, 07:16:51 pm »
Hi!

I have been dealing with terrible health issues for a long time
(underweight, crohn's, adrenal fatigue, bloodsugar problems....)
Now I have been trying to eat a fruitarian diet because I really want my health back.
But what are your thoughts on this?
Would it be better to start eating raw meat, fish, and eggs instead?

I'm so confused when the people on 30bananasaday are saying that they get super great results with a
low fat raw vegan diet.
And here people are saying that raw meat is the way to go.
What do you think is the best way to get my health back?
Could I eat mostly fruits and then for example in the evening eat some fish?

Thanks
/C

I don't think a low fat raw vegan diet is the way to go. It's super high in carbs, and very low in fat. If you're having blood sugar issues, I doubt you want to consume massive amounts of carbs daily.

Raw paleo, with emphasis on plant foods and minimal animal foods would work. But you still need some healthy raw animal fats.

Most people who go fruitarian end up having dental problems, concentration problems, and ups and downs in energy. Raw paleo is probably the best way to go.
Disclaimer: I was told I was misdiagnosed over 10 years ago, and I haven't taken any medication in over a decade.

I would suggest not going to extremes, at first. So don't see it as a choice between 100% raw carnivore and 100% raw vegan.

A raw vegan/fruitarian diet is very useful, at first, in getting rid of toxins from years of eating cooked foods. The trouble is that real healing requires some raw  animal foods as well, and 100% raw plant food diets do not provide all the nutrients the human body needs, so that the body has to expend lots more effort in manufacturing those extra needed nutrients instead of getting them from (raw animal) food .

I would suggest doing an elimination diet. Everyone has different needs, with some needing to go raw zero-carb and others also being allergic to eggs, however raw, or raw dairy or raw honey or whatever etc.. Start introducing small amounts of raw animal foods and gradually increase the amounts:-

Raw isn't the only factor, though. Do try to get the highest quality, so eating sprouted seeds you have grown yourself is a great way to improve the raw plant food component of the diet while aiming for at least partially grassfed raw meat(along with raw organ-meats), and ideally raw,100% grassfed meat, or better still, raw wild game, is also necessary.

If you're underweight, you definitely don't want to eat a fruit-heavy diet.  That would just make it worse.

Crohn's isn't that hard to improve, in many cases.  An all-raw diet seems to help a lot of people with that.  You'll need to experiment with different foods to see which ones help the most.

As far as adrenal fatigue and blood sugar goes, I would try a moderately high fat, moderate protein (25% of total calories), and moderately low-carb diet.  If you find that you feel better eating even more low-carb, then try that. Extremes are usually bad, though, so avoid those, at least in the beginning.

Tell us a little more about your health history.

Thanks for all your replies :)

A little more about me:
I'm 23 years old and have been ill almost my entire life due to mold in
my childhood home, so I have a defect immunsysteme.
These last years have been sooo terrible.
Autoimmune inflammation in intestines, pancreas and thyroid.
Candida, leaky gut, chronic fatigue. Severe allergies (milkprotein, beef, gluten, legumes, nuts, eggs, nightshade vegetables, bananas, avocados, ... the list is long) Lately I have also gotten Multiple chemical sensitivity and I react to perfumes, makeup, cleaning stuff...

Before I tried eating paleo, with this I could manage through high school but I had to take sooooo many pills like vitamins, enzymes, betaine Hcl. And I was always tired, cold, thirsty (even if I drank 4 liters), bloathed and had really bad constipation.

Now I'm really lost because I really want my health back. I started reading about raw food because thanks to my inflammation in my intestines,  I have been vomiting for almost 3 months and it's usually the cooked foods I try that come up.
I read 80/10/10 about low fat raw vegan and there are a lot of things that sounds good.
But my stomach is so complicated. I have to be soooo careful how much I eat, otherwise I start vomiting again.
On the other hand I have really bad cravings for sweet and especially sugar alcohols (xylitol, sorbitol... I know these make stomach problams worse but it almost feels like an "sugar alcohol addiction" I'm really trying to quit but it's hard)

I really wish I one day could get better. I'm still fighting but sometimes everything feels hopeless.
If you have any suggestions what diet would be best and what I could try I would be sooooo happy.
Thanks again :)

For the immune system problems you need vitamin D, in softgel supplements like Now brand, preferably.  Getting sunlight is important, too, if that's realistic in your situation.  You also need lots of fats, and not too many carbs.  Fatty wild-caught fish is very good, especially in the winter.
For the gut problems you need fermented foods.  High meat/fish is very good for these kinds of problems. I also find that healing clays can be good too.

For the cravings I suggest eating a high-fat diet.  if you must eat some carbs, have a little dry fruit like bananas, or some totally raw honeycomb.

Yes, I fully agree, except on the “partially grassfed” meat. Any wheat, heated food, medicine, etc, that had been fed or injected to an animal in his whole history are a potential cause of delayed troubles. Abnormal molecules are also transmitted from mother to offspring through the placenta and milk. Ideally, we should only eat the meat of animals correctly fed without any heated stuff, without milks of other species, without wheat and without any medicine for 3 generations.

That said, forget all intellectual considerations and advices of gurus as well as advices of this forum members because no-one knows what are your actual body requirements. Only your body knows and is able to guide you (by your senses of smell, taste and other feelings) to choose the foods and their amount which will best fulfill your currents and changing needs.

There are some conditions for that way to work properly, conditions which have been several times outlined in the instincto section of this forum.   ;)

Cause and effect are distant in time and space in complex systems, while at the same time there’s a tendency to look for causes near the events sought to be explained. Time delays in feedback in systems result in the condition where the long-run response of a system to an action is often different from its short-run response. — Ronald J. Ziegler

Thank you so much!

I'll try and eat more fish/meat and see how it goes.
I have been reading a lot about the instincto version of eating and that makes sence.

We'll see what happens.
Hopefully my body will tell me what it needs :)
