Is canned fish boiled?
« on: December 11, 2008, 02:21:40 am »
I'm wondering if canned fish, such as canned tuna and canned sardines, are boiled. Since it is the least damaging form of cooking, then maybe canned fish wouldn't be a bad as a backup food or for traveling?

What's your opinion?

Canned food is the absolute worst kind of cooked-food to eat. The trouble is that, since it has to be stored for years, all bacteria have to be got rid of, so the food is precooked for long periods at extremely high temperatures to ensure that no bacteria survive. That means that vitamin-loss is near-total, in most cases.

I think canned fish is cooked when its in the can. Can't be good. But 14 oz of canned salmon is about two dollars. Which is cheap. Ingredients in canned salmon is salmon and salt. Nothing else, I have had canned salmon, I like the skin and bones. You can chew the bones right up! Its great a great experience even though it is cooked!

Used to often eat canned sardines or salmon and thought it was so healthy. I was eating "dead" food all along!
