Fake Laughers
« on: July 06, 2013, 07:13:47 pm »
Years ago I used to just ignore fake laughers.

Now that I'm old and cranky they annoy me.

I notice them more and more are they unhappy? pretenders? sociopaths?

The fake laugh is so obvious does anyone else notice?

I heard a really good PUA talk about this the other day. He referenced comedians and how a good comedian never laughs at his own jokes. A bad comedian will laugh ay his own jokes because the tension HE feels. Instead the good comedian accepts and is comfortable with the tension he creates. He chooses when to build or release the tension. The poor one has no control over it. So he laughs to diffuse it but it creates more for his audience.

Oh that's an attention thing imo.

I find virtual fake laughers a curiosity. Some people type "haha" all the time, even when they don't write anything funny. It comes across as self-dismissive, as in "Do not take me seriously and criticize me, because I don't take myself seriously."

In larger amounts this is somewhat true, but you'll see Dave Chappelle laugh a little at some of his own jokes, and he's a brilliant standup.  Kevin Hart does this too.

But not usually directly after the punchline. There is usually a pause, like it has really set in what was said. It's very natural, not forced. Completely relaxed. I love both their comedy and frequently quote them. Good examples.

Still no takers on this subject.

For instance a girl I know will laugh at anything me or my friends say all the time,  I never hear that belly laugh of real joy (I think she maybe a sociopath).

I have a client who comes across as a really nice guy except he fake laughs and I think he is a bit sad.

Or a girl who will laugh but I think she is actually not a very nice person and depressed as well.

Eve, I think virtual laughing is extremely important, because like emails and texts things can easily be taken the wrong way. If you chuck in a 'Lol' they do not take the post/text/email the wrong way (if you know what I mean heheh).

I get the real LOLs, emoticons, LMFAOs, and other notes to convey emotions in texts and email; however, the fake laughs are there, too. I see it here on this forum. There are hahas after statements that cannot be taken in the wrong way. I take it as a shift in style.
