My E95 Food Tolerance Test
« on: July 26, 2013, 09:00:06 pm »
For those who haven't heard of this, they take blood and expose it to certain foods and observe how many anti-bodies are made.

The theory is that when large numbers of anti-bodies are produced in response to certain foods, those foods are being recognized as foreign and are provoking an immune response that may be contributing to illness.

The test recommends I avoid cow's milk, casein (milk protein, in lots of processed food), cottage cheese, American cheese, beef, and brewer's yeast.

There's some controversy around whether producing lots of anti-bodies to food is harmful or not,  but my results seem to reflect my reactions to food. After drinking cow's milk I always have a stuffed up nose the next day and feel groggy. When I drank raw goat's milk this never happened. Now I wonder if casein could be contributing to the brain fog and forgetfulness I've had all my life. There's evidence for a connection between casein intolerance, ADHD, and feeling spaced out regularly. Going dairy-free seems like it would be a good experiment for me, it would be hard though. I've been really enjoying butter lately >: ;D

Does butter have casein in it? I thought most of the protein was filtered out, and butter is pretty much pure fat?

Also, have you read Natasha Campbell-McBride's book Gut and Psychology Syndrome? Sounds like it might interest you, from what you've written above.

Do they expose to the cooked or raw versions of these foods?

How do they get a baseline for the limits? Meaning, lentils is acceptable at a different number than wheat, who determines what's acceptable for each food?

Does butter have casein in it?

Butter is about 81% fat, 18% water, and 1% is milk solids.
Such trace amounts of casein are usually ignored.

stick with the butter spirit bear! or give all dairy a break for a few weeks and reintroduce butter.  in the interim seek out better sources

in my early 20''s I didn't have dairy for about 5 years because I was convinced I was lactose intolerant or whatever. when i actually got the blood test it did come back positive for antibodies, so i assumed my intolerance was true, it also came back positive for all nuts and some seeds, wheat and grains including rice, soy, some other weird stuff like lettuce, asparagus and egg whites and yolks, with whites being higher.

at any rate did noticed issues with eggs(sunny side up), even organic pastured "non soy" ones from larger production farms sold at health food stores.  so i assumed the allergy was true.  i met a lady who had goose eggs and gave them a try, just had a hankering, and had no issues with raw yolks,

so i tried duck, turkey, and raised my own chickens for eggs, all pasture fed with a small amount of supplemental grain scratch. no issues.  i even can eat a few cooked whiets a week, and some times actually want them, but too many and i start getting s

ore, i realized it was a source and cooking issue and have happily been consuming  raw egg yolks
 ever since

at the same time the woman hooked me up with raw goats whey, which was like the nectar of the gods, and i had a boyfriend who consumed massive quantities of organic yogurt, which was pasturized but damn good(white mountain brand), so i started eating yogurt and cottage cheese and butter.................so much butter.  all grass fed but pasturized, and no real issues

i think my issues with dairy in the past were the the only dairy that tasted good before i knew about grass fed or raw or anything, was icecream, which, even homemade, was just sugar and pasturized milk, so no way to even digest that for me.

now i have matured to nicely aged high fat raw cheese, and those are fucking awesome, i would prefer to keep my dairy consumption strictly to raw cultured butter, but i don't have a source

so take those tests with a grain of salt, they can be helpful, like i still cant eat almonds, not raw, not sprouted, nor walnuts, even if i harvest them myself.  i eat a ton of lettuce, i think i am more addicted than allergic.  asparagus, i eat like 5 a year because they have such a short season and haven't found a good wild patch in recent years.......so there you go that's my 2.5 cents
