Biohacking - Dave Asprey interview
« on: September 23, 2013, 11:19:42 am »
This sounds fascinating. Not sure if I like his medicinal ideas but some of the other things sound interesting.

I could not figure out if he has written any books. His site has lots of discussion.

What can you'all tell me about this guy and his ideas?

Check out these podcasts. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/bulletproof-executive-radio/id451295014   He interviews some awesome people. Very forward thinking. I do not necessarily agree with it all, as I am very much a paleo + dairy kind a guy, but his brain hacking stuff is dy-no-mite.

Some of the science stuff like neurofeedback programs and heart optimizing programs are in my world a primo idea. You are essentially training your brain and heart to do what it takes many years of meditation etc to know. It's like having a car fitted out with gauges so you can see "Oh wow this food that I am eating or have just eaten is causing food allergies." (A free App for your iPhone/iPod Touch, that uses the camera to check out your heartbeat somehow or uses a heart monitor strap, but will no doubt expand into other devices.)  " https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/bulletproof-executive-radio/id451295014 Foodsense"

He has one podcast with a guy that has figured out cow milk for ppl who have issues with it.

These Podcasts are totally out of the park and totally axesome for the type of ppl at this site. Suspend judgement till you listen.

Here is another app from the same people who give away the Foodsense apphttp://www.sweetwaterhrv.com/  http://www.sweetwaterhrv.com/quickstartvideo.shtml @ 4.99 USD, it is very affordable. HRV is Heartrate varibility

This app when used with whatever monitoring device is available when you read this, will tell you exactly the effect that things are having on your heart. Things such as the bed you sleep in, foods you eat, habits while computing, stressful activities, sex, you name it. It shows you when you are stressing yourself out so you can stop doing them or modify how you react to them or somehow figure out a strategy to tone it down.

Stressing your heart will lead to health problems whether you like or accept that notion.

It is similar to the Heartmath strategy except that it works in subtler domains, so they are not in competition. Heartmath is kind of maybe an eye opener and this tops off the tank.

BTW I have not tried this, as I just heard about it, but I am waiting breathlessly for my Heartmath Emwave Desktop to arrive. First things first. I will post again when I try it.

Ill look at the video later but my experience with biohacking is that is a part of the sickness called transhumanism.

This is part of the movement designed to encourage the eventual merger of man and machine the acceptance of the implanted chip or "mark of the beast" if you are so inclined.

This leads down to us all becoming one just like the borg as all our minds will be connected to each other through these chips and we will lose all individuality and form a hive mind. thus no longer being human, the ultimate goal of transhumanism.

the "endgame" if you will, the final goal of the parasitic elites.

I just love transhumanism. I reckon there is a rightwing-libertarian type of transhumanism that is more likely to happen.

Perhaps you will feel differently in 15 or 20 years, when this might actually be possible. who knows? People change over time.

No this is completely evil in my opinion and is being done with the most sinister of intentions based on my research.

I think god made me perfect the way I am thank you very much, changing my biology is the last thing id ever want to do and having technology interface with my brain is an infinitely frightening prospect.

I find it an exciting prospect, myself.  What if you could hook my brain up to a giant antenna or eye, and hear/see radio waves?    For that matter, some bird species have up to 7 different types of color-detecting cells in their eyes.  Humans only have 1 type.  Can you imagine what it would be like if you could see color the way those birds do, or even better?

I'd also like to be able to hear sound frequencies up to 100K hertz and higher, the way bats do...and down into the single digit hertz range, like whales do.

I also want no tech to interfere with my brain... enough when I see what the tech boom do to people in today's world. I love to be human too, and the technology with its artificially created radiations and radiowaves is a dangerous road to walk. Those have never been present in the evolution until the last century. We have had no chance to adapt to those... and we can see it in increased illnesses like autism, ALS, different mental illnesses, PD, AD, cancer......... so many more.
It is kind of ironic I am using the internet now. But sure it has its benefits, we just need to be aware of the dangers too.... in this new age of smart phones   -[

The same understanding of the brain that will allow brain modifications will also allow us to completely get rid of illnesses like ADHD, schizophrenia, etc.. That's my thought.

Not being argumentative, but I disagree, and being schizophrenic myself that's saying a lot! While debatable, Dr. Hoffer talks a lot about how being schizophrenic may be beneficial in some way and the problem lying in not having the proper nourishment.

While I know I was functioning very poorly pre orthomolecular medicine, orthomolecular medicine improved my condition substantially. The combination of eating raw and orthomolecular medicine has lead to me functioning incredibly well. I do very well in school, much better than before I was officially diagnosed schizophrenic. I've even come up with orthomolecular supplement, diet and toxin elimination strategies of my own through research and open mindedness that orthomolecular doctors don't know about (as far as I know). I think my having schizophrenia has played a big part in me thinking outside the box, and having different views.

So in a way I agree with Dr. Hoffer, that by nourishing the body properly, eliminating toxins, etc. in a way it may be beneficial. And who knows maybe using some unnatural means of eliminating schizophrenia would eliminate those benefits.

have you always been doing orthomolecular medicine and raw at the same time? Did you ever try each alone?

Yeah. I did orthomolecular medicine with a cooked diet for a while. It worked well and I eventually went to a cooked version of the paleo diet without the emphasis on high quality animal foods and animal fats. Did pretty well.

Later switched to RPD while simultaneously stopping the orthomolecular medicine and meds (low dose of 40 mg geodon). I was also on a very low fat, high protein, high carb RPDiet. I was mainly eating muscle meat, eggs, and fruit. While having had a better RPDiet at the time may have postponed my relapse, it would only have delayed it. The relapse was bound to happen without the orthomolecular approach. The orthomolecular approach is what initially took me out of the schizophrenic state and into normalcy.

Fascinating, I would like to know how you do on high fat raw paleo including large amounts of the chemicals you takein their raw form such as lots of liver for niacin without the orthomolecular.

Perhaps you will try this for the sake of experiment? anyway illbe informing my schizophrenic friends of this seeing as they wont give raw animal food diet a go either way.

I have a mild suspicion that ADHD is the slightly less severe form of schizophrenia, depending on the day, and I notice I have a huge desire for raw liver. Almost to the point of vitaminosis A. I'm wondering if it's the niacin in it, or perhaps other B vitamins.
-Dustin

Trying to heal ADHD. Common symptoms: fatigue, impulsiveness, poor attention, no motivation.
Other side issues I'd like to get over: Acne, dandruff, tooth health (yellow, poor gums, gingivitis)

If ya ain't hungry enough to eat raw liver, ya ain't hungry enough.

We are all just doing the best we can, with what we know, at any given time.

A good place to start looking for information is Dr. Hoffer's books. The first one I bought from him was "Healing Schizophrenia: Complementary Vitamin & Drug Treatments." He also has an orthomolecular journal (like the standard medical journals) that's online.

1,000 mg niacin, 50 mg b complex and 1,000 mg vitamin c 3x daily is really helpful (what Dr. Hoffer recommends).

I'm not sure if I'd be willing to stop the supplements again. I might be willing to just add in much more liver, but I'm a little skeptical because getting the amount of niacin I get from supplements by using liver would mean ingesting a lot of copper.

you may be skeptical but the truth in my opinion is that the niacin in your supplements is about 2-3 percent utilizable with the rest just being toxic waste. If this is true you would only need 30mg of niacin in raw unfrozen form to get the same effect of 1000mg in supplement, do the math to see how much raw liver you need to get that much niacin and make sure you get that same does every day to see if is true in a scientific manner.

You may not believe me but the only way you will know is if you try.

I think it would be fairly important for you to use the 2-3 percent utilizability model and attempt to get the same amount every day of each supplement you take in raw form using the mathematical model I gave you previously. THis could become very important in coming up with a 100% raw version of orthomolecular medicine and could be a true godsend for schizophrenics.
