Is Pastured-fed pork healthy?
« on: February 21, 2014, 07:05:36 am »
My farm serves pastured-fed pork, they get serves the cattle's diet from what I know, but don't pork have a different diet than cattle? I wonder about this because I would much rather eat pork than beef, I find them more palatable and they have much higher fat content than beef. I tried asking the farm for fatter beef, but they only serve lean beef. The thing is, is it okay for pigs to eat the same diet as the cattle, or should pigs' diet be different? Here is what they say about it, http://www.fermedoree.com/pork_ang.htm I would prefer pork over beef in the case of grounded meat but I rather go for quality over taste. Their pork taste very good though.

You might need to make a phone call for specifics about the winter diet and then make your decision.

I have a similar situation with eggs. In the summer, the hens are 100% pastured without being thrown extra feed. In the winter they are fed silage. I make my purchases during the season that agrees with my goal.
