Mystery Organ
« on: May 01, 2014, 05:46:01 am »
I was eating a salmon head when a mystery organ fell out. I didn't see what part it came from, so I was completely lost as to what it was. It was sac-like, and full of semi solid blood.

I ate it ... tasted good and I wasn't concerned about it. But I'm wondering what it was.

Without a photograph I can't be sure. It could have just been a lump of coagulated blood.

Yeah, I should've taken a picture. I was hungry. :x It definitely wasn't just blood, it was in a sac-like thing. It was when I squeezed it that the blood would squeeze out of an opening, so I ate the blood. Then, I just ate the whole sac. I just don't know what else would be in the head besides the brain, eyes, and gills.

Where was it? Near gills, eyes, nose, lower jaw, brain? Was this head from a whole fish you bought? I'm thinking it could have been the heart, if the heart wasn't yanked out with the guts. The heart is  right up closest to the head in the gut cavity, kinda between the left and right gill. Then, if you did have the whole fish, the liver is next to the heart (heading from nose to tail). You can google-image this stuff for good images of salmon anatomy. Oyster and other seafood anatomy is cool, too.

I got it from the small fish market that I get all my seafood from. I only took the heads from them. But it was fresh from a whole fish.
